Borders Road Running League – Christleton result 16th Dec

Results: http://www.bordersleague.org.uk/

The 3rd Fixture in the Borders Road Running League took place at Christleton, nr Chester on Sunday 16th December and despite it being a road race, the course included a 1km section of track which was very muddy with puddles; hence all the 308 competitors finished the event looking as if they had just completed a cross country race!

Amongst them were eleven Eryri Harriers led home once again on the 9.3km course by 5th placed Brendan Rothery in a time of 30:40, followed by Eryri debutant and Bangor University student Daniel Kashi in a very good 8th place in a time of 31:22.  Steffan Sayer having another good run finishing 14th 32:32 followed by Aberystwyth based Jos Jones 47th 35:23. 49th Arwel Lewis 35:28. 109th Dylan Owen 38:09. 123rd Rhys James 38:49. 128th Ashley Wager 39:11. 267th Roy Jardine 48:22. 271st Martin Williams 49:09 and 287th Eryri stalwart; Iorwerth Roberts 51:28.

The race was won by Deeside’s outstanding young athlete Dave Mountford in a fast time of 29:21followed by his club colleague Ricky Challinor 29:59.

Eryri’s men still find themselves in 6th place of the 7 teams in the 1st Division and in the relegation places with four races to go the next race of which is at Birkenhead Park on Sunday 13th January 2013.

Meanwhile; further down the road, Matthew Roberts knocked another 4 seconds off his personal best in finishing 20th in the Telford 10k in a time of 31:25. Matthew was in very good company as the race was won in a very fast time of 29:08 by Andy Baddeley (Harrow/St Mary’s Univ) who is better known for his exploits on the track competing for Great Britain at all the major events usually over the 800 and 1500m distances. Telford was Andy’s first noted 10km race.

Well done to the Eryri stalwarts who turned out for the club at the above event. Thanks to Jos Jones and Joanne Moore who are relative newcomers to running for Eryri in cross country and without whom we would not have had the bare minimum required to score without being penalised!
