SMR 27/1/13  10.30
Meet at Rhyd Ddu – Y Garn / Nantlle Ridge start point: GR566526.

Unsure of route thus far, if weather good then either over Nantlle Ridge or rear of Mynydd Mawr, if weather bad then some classic loops through Beddgelert woods.

If weather is good it’ll be a perfect chance to recce part of Ras Pedol Pennant (15/06) or Ras Tal y Mignedd (18/06). If not then a good blast around the Beddgel loops.

Twin Piers Triumph

Eryri’s Men Twin Piers Triumph
With four finishers in the top ten, Eryri’s men were clear team winners of the Llandudno to Colwyn Bay Twin Piers 10km race on Saturday 19th January.
From the off, the race competitors had to put up with a strong headwind in dry but very cold conditions hence the runners finishing times were slower than expected.
First overall was former Colwyn Bay now Trafford AC athlete James Bleakley in a time of 34.30 closely followed by Lee Jones (Deeside MV/40) 34.38 with Eryri’s Brendan Rothery 3rd – 34.45 with Daniel Kashi 4th – 35.30. Arthur Connell 9th – 37.10 and Paul Wathan on his last outing before moving to Canada 10th – 37.12.
Eryri’s men secured the team title ahead of Deeside with Eryri B 3rd. Eryri’s Tim Watson was 3rd MV/45 – 40.00 and Derek Weaver 2nd MV/55 – 43.19.
Eryri’s women finished 2nd team on the day behind hosts Colwyn Bay. The four being: 88th Gemma Morgans on her last outing before accompanying Paul Wathan to Canada; 45.58. 128th Tina McDonnell 49.29. 156th Hayley Turner 51.07 and 162nd Sioned Rowlands 51.13.
Eryri’s women did have the consolation along with their male compatriots of being the first winners of the Tom Watson Memorial Team awards. The 1st female finisher was Bangor University’s Sarah Kaskey in a time of 39.32.
In all, there were 274 finishers.
Results (for some reason showing as 2012 results)
Cheers,
Arwel

After four out of five events the Eryri Mens Team still have a substantial lead over second placed Deeside, while the Male Masters have jumped up to second position overall.

The Ladies Team are still holding on to second position, with the Lady Masters in fourth but only 7 points behind third placed Denbigh Harriers.

Seethe full results page on the NWXCL website for who did what at Lilleshall on the 12th January.

The final fixture – Oswestry on February 2nd.  The event is at the usual venue of The Marches School., SY11 2AR.

So lots to play for, and with a good turn out we may secure a few extra trophies.

With that in mind, if you won a trophy last year please ensure that you either bring it to the final fixture or pass it someone who is attending.

Eryri strong in the field at Lilleshall

North Wales Cross Country League – Lilleshall – 12th January 2013

From being worried about fielding a womens team at Lilleshall, the club actually had six representatives in the end. The course was very heavy, muddy and wet and the afternoon cold and overcast but no snow! Bronwen Jenkinson (U17) led the team home, followed by Joanne Moore (W40) running strongly in her second cross country, Ellie Salisbury (W50), Hayley Turner, Sioned Rowlands straight back from warm weather training, and Maggie Oliver (W60).

The mens team continued their precarious existence from Wrexham with just having the required six members! However on the plus side there was a great cross country debut by Martin Cliffe (M40) finishing in 16th position, followed by good packing from Antony Bethell 31st (M45), Adrian Williams 32nd (M40), Arwel Lewis 40th (M50), a super sprint finish from Dils 70th (M40) and Paul Jenkinson 75th (M40). Well done Vets but where are all the Senior Men? Team positions are not known yet but hopefully with a good turn out in Oswestry on February 2nd the mens team could still win and the women will still be in medal contention. Well done everyone for giving up their Saturday to make the long trek over the border.

The North Wales Cross Country Championship is at the Rhug Estate, near Corwen (LL21 OEH) on Saturday 26th January. Pre entry is by January 21st on a form that can be downloaded from the northwalesxc website. Entry is possible on the day and costs an extra £2. Lets have a good turn out from the club to support this event. Minibus going to Oswestry but not Rhug – try to lift share!

Fancy a trip to the Silent Valley?

Entries are now open for the first round of the British Championships over in Northern Ireland on Saturday 13th April, the race being the superb medium – Silent Valley.  This is a classic route at around 12 miles which packs one hell of a punch.

Historically the club has sent a biggish crowd most years so hopefully this’ll happen again this year.  Normal plan is to get the ferry over Friday tea time and return Sunday afternoon, much cheaper to fill a car with 5 people so the more the better.

Accommodation is in a set of cheap holiday homes for the weekend.
