Message from Ross & Sheila

Many of you have been asking how Ross is after yesterdays Siabod race.  Here’s an emailed update.

Dear All,

Many thanks for all the assistance yesterday and for all the kind messages.

Ross was overwhelmed at the number of runners that had stopped to help. Please pass on his thanks to all those involved who are not listed in this e mail – particularly to the Clwydian paramedic (Mark Wright?) and Kate Worthington. He had no idea he was unconscious for so long.

Ross was kept in hospital overnight under observation and released lunchtime today. All the test results were normal. He is advised to take it easy for a while and will have more tests as an outpatient in due course.

See you all soon,

Ross and Sheila

Mont Blanc Marathon Weekend

Mont Blanc Marathon weekend

A big Eryri crowd headed over to the Alps for the weekend to partake in the some of the 4 races that were held from Friday to Sunday in Chamonix.

First off at 4am on a cracking Friday morning was Matt Fortes and Johnny Moore in the 80k ultra which climbed a mammoth 6000 metres!!!  Both ran separately but amazingly came in after each other. Matt finishing in 30th but 1st Brit in a colossal 13 hours and 38 minutes, with Johnny in 31st in 13.42 and 7th vet 40 – super performances! Incredibly 471 people finished the race!

On the Friday evening it was the Vertical kilometre, this measured in at just over 3k but climbed 1000 metres! Paul Jenks flew the Welsh flag finishing in 52nd in 45.42 and 7th vet. Becky Law – back from a broken wrist finished 32nd lady in 57.37. 336 runners finished.

On the Saturday the infamous Cross Mont Blanc was run, measuring in at 23k with 1400 metres of climb.  Braichmelyn hitman running for Ambleside AC – Hugh O’Donnell ran well to finish in 59th but 2nd Brit in 2hrs 32mins. 1307 runners finished!

An hour later it was time for the 10k which climbed 300metres. Paul Jenks once again led the Welsh home finishing in 57th overall and 15th vet 40 in 52.22. In the ladies the Eryri performance of the weekend came from Bronwen Jenkinson who finished 15th lady in 55.56 – just over 3 minutes behind her Dad but more importantly 2nd junior lady. Becky Law followed soon after in 22nd in 57.44. There were 699 runners!

The final race, on the Sunday was the Marathon which climbs 2500 metres. Math Roberts managed to stick with Kilian Journet for 5k before being dropped and finishing 30 minutes back in 19th in 4hrs and 5 minutes. 1922 runners finished the race.

A highly recommended weekend racing in some of the best races the world over – overall a gargantuan 4735 runners ran in the 4 races!

Foel Fras report

Foel Fras report

Race results

60 runners ran in Saturday’s Foel Fras race which starts in Abergwyngregyn and takes in the summits of Y Drum, Foel Fras, Carnedd Gwenllian and Moel Wnion as it clocks the 13 miles.

It was down to Welshpool paramedic Rich Roberts to take the win in 1hr 39mins – good to see Rich racing in his local area. Rich finished an astounding 12 minutes ahead of 2nd finisher Jez Brown! There was a strong run for Eryri’s Paul Jones, Paul finished 7th overall but 3rd vet 40 in 1.57. Soon following was Arwel Lewis storming to victory in the vet 50’s in 1.59. Emyr Davies had a stormer to win the vet 70’s in 2.31, just ahead of 2nd lady and 1st lady vet 40, Ali Thomas who finished in 2.32.

For those who unfathomably have the time in their lives to read this incredibly length report of the race read this novel:

UKA British Fell Relays

Woohoo!

The website for the 2013 UKA British Fell Relay created by Eryri Harriers has finally gone live!

Many thanks to Eryri committee member Ellie Salisbury for putting it together, and also to Adrian Moir for ably assisting her.

Entries are now open to all running clubs in the UK, though there is an emphasis on entrants being bona fide experienced fellrunners.

Race routes have been published on the new site.  If you’re a likely team member then check them out.

If you aren’t likely to be racing in an Eryri team then please do offer your services as a marshal on the day and even days before as there’ll be loads to do.  Contact Maggie Oliver to help.

Cheers,

Craig.

Relay Committee Chairman.
