This week will be a shorter SMR, on the traditional date of the old Llyn Elsi Race.
The route will take us up to and around the lake. Steep to start with, leveling out for pleasant lake run.
10.30am start – tea and food afterwards in The Stables.

Helsby Border League – 15th December 2013
Wigg Island Community Park, Runcorn
Essential Information
Directions to Wigg Island –
Travelling on the M56 eastbound, exit M56 at Junction 12
Take the 3rd exit off the roundabout, onto the A557, signposted Runcorn (this is the Weston Point Expressway)
Continue on the dual carriageway for about 4½ miles (go past the turn-offs for Westfield/Runcorn Station; The Bridge; Runcorn Town Centre; and Runcorn Town Hall/Higher Runcorn)
Exit the dual carriageway when you see the brown sign for Wigg Island and above it a sign for Astmoor.
Follow the brown signs, leading you through a small industrial estate and then across the swing bridge onto the island (all well signposted).
Course
The course is about 5.5 miles and consists of three non-identical laps (see route map). The race starts near the car parks and finishes on a field in the centre of the island.
We do not have exclusive use of the park, so, as usual, please show consideration for other users.
Parking
There is parking on the island, but space is limited, so please could as many of you car share as possible. There is also overspill parking on the final section of road just before the swing bridge.
Toilets
There are two toilets in the visitor centre, and there will be portaloos on site
Refreshments
The Wildlife Trust is opening the visitor centre for us, and will be selling tea/coffee and cakes to raise funds. Your support would be really appreciated.

Cross country report for committee meeting (4th December 2013)
Maggie Oliver and Becki Law had an enjoyable handover meeting in the Caban after the Sunday Morning Run at the weekend (fingers crossed I can do as good a job as Maggie has done over the past few years!).
Maggie kindly covered for me at the Wrexham fixture last weekend (see website for report). Current standings are as follows:
Senior Men – 8th at Wrexham (with penalty), now 6th in the league (from 1st)
Masters Men – 9th at Wrexham, 3rd in league
O70’s Men – Don Williams 1st by a long way!
Senior Women – 5th on the day, 3rd to 2nd in the league
Masters Women – 3rd on day, 2nd in league
Last but by no means least, Maggie (and others I think, who I haven’t had a chance to find on the website today!?) represented Wales in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International in November – the ladies team earned a fantastic Bronze medal!
I’ll double-check all of the above results and standings etc and update the website soon.
Looking forward to the next fixture at Lilleshall on 18th January, will be looking to organise (hopefully free!) transport for everyone. Soon coming up, there is also the Welsh Inter-regional Championships on December 14th in Builth Wells, I’ve emailed the 16 athletes who have been selected to run and am awaiting replies. Will look to confirming transport arrangements for this one too.
I will also be nabbing/cajoling people at Lilleshall and the fun run for representatives at the North Wales Championships in Northop on 25th January. This also forms the Welsh Masters Cross Country Championships so I will be encouraging members via the weekly to enter this if they’d like to. Please accept my apologies at this event as I’ll be on route back from a ski trip, will make it if I can!
I think that’s it for now, please do feel free to let me know if I’m missing anything/anyone.
Becki Law
