Twin Piers victory

Eryri’s men got the road running year off to a great start at the annual Twin Piers 10k race on Sunday 11th January with Brendan Rothery leading Eryri to the team prize in winning the race from Llandudno pier to Colwyn Bay Pier in a time of 33.26 ahead of Stockport’s Jamie Loxam 33:49 and Buxton’s Robert White 33:53.

 6th and making a welcome return to competition after a spell out injured, Chris Evans 34:50. 12th Dewi Owen 36:26 & 22nd (2nd MV/40) Paul Jones 37:52.

Eryri won the male team prize. In all there were 14 Eryri Harriers competing amongst the 338 race finishers: 24th (3rd MV/45) Gary Porter Jones 38:17. 29th Huw Owen 38:33. 31st (3rd MV/55) Arwel lewis 38:40. 44th Derek Weaver 40:24. 46th Iwan Edgar 40:44. 68th Jonathan Tyler 42:51. 90th Eurwyn Edwards 44:35. 177th Ali Thomas 49:55. 189th Emily Wood 50:35. 277th and still going strong now that he has reached the 70 year old mark, Iorwerth Roberts 59:21.

Following the stormy weather that we have experienced lately, the conditions for the event were perfect, dry, not too cold and with no wind!!

Welll Done to Colwyn Bay AC for a well organised event.

Free 1 day Coaching Course on offer

The club is offering one member the opportunity to attend an official LiRF training course to become a qualified coach for the club.  Costs associated with the training will be paid by the club, we only ask in return that you genuinely intend to use the qualification for the good of the club.

This will allow you to officially coach both seniors and junior runners.  We already have one qualified coach, namely our Chairman and Junior Trainer, Paul Jenkinson.  Paul however could always do with a hand with the juniors occasionally.  The person attending this will also be well qualified to help out at the other training nights.

If interested please get in touch with Arwel Lewis asap on 07772 302411 or

See below:

There is an athletics course “Leadership in Running Fitness Course” taking place

Northern Ireland trip update

20 people have confirmed their attendance on the Northern Ireland weekend away, details here:

This means space is now tight – depending on the number of houses we opt for, basically at present there’ s space for another 2 people……but that could be 8 or at the most 14, but as I state all depends on number of houses.

Anyway get in touch if you’re interested…….

Bring on the Mud!

Bring on the cross-country mud!

The next race of the cross country league is at Lilleshall on 18th January – we really need to try to get a full men’s team out this time – it would be fantastic to continue our successes from last year. Both senior and masters ladies are currently second in the league too! Time to put all the your training efforts to good use (and any mince pie indulgences behind you!) – anyone and EVERYONE helps the team (as long as you are first claim Eryri) so don your vest and go for it!

The weekend after is the North Wales Cross-country championships in Northop on 25th January (including junior races) – you can find the entry form and further details by following the link below:

Following that is Oswestry on 8th February – see for details.

Minibus transport details for these league events to be posted soon.

Please let me know if you can make it to these events – we need as many as possible to help but a minimum of 6 men, 4 ladies, 3 masters men (O40) and 3 masters ladies (O35).

Thanks and feel free to contact me with any queries.

Fell running news

A brief report on the actions of some Eryri members over the last two weeks.

C0rndon Classic

Excellent to see club chairman Paul Jenks back in action after a recent hiccup. Jenks finished commendably in 20th in 53.13. Meanwhile Bronwen Jenks ran well to finish 5th lady but 1st under 20 lady in 60.43.

Jubilee Plunge

Strong descending by Gary Porter Jones saw him finishing in 5th overall in the Plunge in 11.55, just 1.10 behind winner Ifs Richards. Ellie Salisbury was the other Eryri finisher in 46th in 17.21.

Auld Lang Syne

Paul and Bronwen Jenks were back in action on New Years eve in the classic Auld Lang Syne where a bumper 425 finished. On what is a very fast course Bronwen starred to finish as first under 18 – in which was a highly competitive field – in a time of 59.25, less than a minute and a half earlier her Dad Paul finished in 139th in 57.57 – she’ll get him before long! As per usual a number of runners ran in some outrageous costumes!
