Border League

ERYRI BACK TO FULL (GALE) FORCE!
After a so far, inauspicious Border League season to date and following a much improved team performance at Mold the last time out, Eryri were out in full force on “Home” ground in Caernarfon for the penultimate race of the 2014/15 season and wearing their new, revamped club vests. Matthew Roberts led Eryri home to a superb team win in what can only be described as a race of two halves!
Due to the strong gale force South Westerly wind, the 10k race route was run in a clockwise direction which blew the competitors back along the Foryd to the Finish at Coed Helen. It certainly made for a fast last 5k! and a few 10k PB’s!  Matt Roberts won the event in a time of 32:39 ahead of club colleague Gwyn Owen. 32:52 followed by: 5th (1st U/20) Owen Roberts 34:13. 14th and making a welcome return to racing, Brendan Rothery 35:29. 18th Dewi Owen 35:53 (PB). 40th Huw Owen 37:55 (PB). 48th Steffan Williams 38:44. 61st (3rd MV/55) Arwel Lewis 39:36. 68th Gary Porter-Jones 40:01. 74th Phil Targett 40:18 (PB). 87th Stuart McDonald 41:35 (PB). 90th Dilwyn Rowlands 41:49. 91st Rhys James 41:57. 162nd Lowri Jones 47:55. 171st Sioned Rowlands 49:02 (PB). 174th Huw Trainor 49:10. 176th & missing out on the 1st MV/70 category by just one place and one second! Don Williams 49:13 and 191st Alex Fletcher 51:39 (PB).
There were 211 finishers just before the heavy rain came in! Eryri’s men were clear winners of the ten team 2nd Division with 127 points ahead of Helsby 202 while Eryri’s women were placed 5th in their respective 2nd Division with 116 points. With just the one race to go at Wrexham on Wednesday 22nd April, Eryri’s men and women both have something to aim for, The Improvers Trophies! Eryri’s men have a 433 point advantage over Helsby while Eryri’s women lead Wrecsam Tri by 78 points.
Thank you to all the race helpers who braved the conditions on the day who were winners as well (they won against the elements)! and made the event a success.
Arwel.
