Dash in the daylight

The Clwydian Range Runners are pleased to announce that a brand new, permanent, fully way marked running route has been installed at Llandegla forest. There are two 10km routes (red & blue) and although parts of them are the same they differ in terms of the experience and ability required of the runner. The Clwydian Range Runners have been working on this for just over 12 months now and as a way of thanking the people involved we are hosting an opening race around the course. The date is Saturday 20th February 2016 Registration between 09:30 – 10:30 for an 11am race start Cost will be £5
Kit: due to us not being able to forecast the weather in February, which can be hit and miss from year to year, we will be expecting runners to have waterproof or windproof jacket, Hat & Gloves.
There will be the usual prize giving and thank you’s afterwards and the center, as many of you know, serves great hot and cold drinks, cakes and light meals.
Please see the attached poster.
PS. Feel free to go and have a run around the route beforehand, it’s open to the public now!
Many thanks,Gareth Jaggard CRR

Keswick Mountain Festival

Eryri are hoping to get a team together to enter the Keswick Mountain Festival Trail races in May 2016. We need a mixed team of at least 6 members spread over the 4 different races, these are 5K, 10K, 25K & a 50K Ultra (2,000 metres of ascent). The races are held on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd May, full details on the Keswick Mountain Festival Web-site Entry includes T. Shirt, Pasta Party & Concert Ticket with many other Festival attractions available it’s a great weekend up in The Lakes & lets face it they could do with some support after the recent floods. Anyone interested please contact Paul Hodges at paul.hodges@hotmail.co.uk who will co-ordinate our team entries. He’s in the 25K but that doesn’t stop you opting for that distance too, this will be his 4th year in this race so clearly he loves the route! Hopefully we can sort out some pooled transport.

Borders League Report

ERYRI’S LADIES OVERSHADOW ERYRI’S MEN!
In the 3rd fixture of the Borders Road Running League on “Home Ground” at Caernarfon on Sunday 6th December, Eryri’s women outshone their male counterparts with team victory in Division 2 on the day with 64 points against their nearest challengers Prestatyn with 89 points while Eryri’s men had to be content with 2nd place in the Division 2 team standings on the day with 441 points just 10 points behind Prestatyn’s 431 points. It might have been different story if the winner of the first two events (Matthew Roberts) had been available but, he was unable to compete because of a toe injury.
Following the torrential rain and gale force winds of the previous day, there was a doubt that the race would take place but after an early downpour the winds died down and by the time of the race start at 11am, it turned out to be ideal running conditions except for a few puddles along the race route.
The race developed into a very close and cagey affair between Wrexham’s Daniel Weston and Wirral duo Phil Robertson and Phil Langan with Robertson just edging out his club mate to become Wirral’s first Border League race winner since 2006 in a time of 33:02. The first Eryri Harrier to finish was 10th placed Dewi Owen 35:23 followed by: 42nd Huw Owen 38:07. 47th Shaun Davies (Border League Debut) 38:41. 49th Steffan Williams 38:50. 105th Arwel Lewis 42:07. 109th Ali Chant 42:27. 112th (2nd S/F) Lizzie Irvine 42:34. 113th James McQueen 42:36. 123rd Sarah Hurley (Border League Debut) 43:01. 199th Ali Thomas 48:31. 224th (1st MV/70) Don Williams 50:32. 240th Alison Donnelly 53:44 and 261st Roy Jardine 63:05.
In all, there were 262 finishers which is a record for a Border League race on the Caernarfon 10k course.
In the overall team standings: Eryri’s women are placed 5th and the men 6th in their respective 2nd Division’s while Eryri’s women currently lead the “Improvers Trophy by 137 points ahead of Cybi. Eryri’s men are currently placed 3rd in the Improvers Trophy.
The race was organised by Cybi Striders ably assisted by Eryri in what turned out to be an excellent event. Well Done to all who helped on the day.
The next event will be at Abergele on Sunday 24th January at 11am.

Builth Wells Inter-regional XC champs

Well done to the 9 Eryri Harriers who once again battled the weather running for North Wales at the Inter-regionals in Builth Wells on Saturday.
Gethin Davies, running for the U15 boys, came in a strong 30th and helped the North Wales team to 3rd position. In the U17s mens race, Ryan Owen also ran brilliantly coming in 11th in a strong field of 35 runners, bringing the North Wales team an amazing gold medal! Annabelle McQueen was also 14th in the U17 women’s race – brilliant efforts from all of our younger athletes!
Beckie Taylor ran very well and was a 11th overall in the Seniors/Masters Womens race of 87 runners, with Tammy Lewis-Jones coming in 24th (2nd WV45), Helen Blair coming in 34th (6th WV45), Annie Williams coming in 59th (19th, running in the WV45 category) and 3rd team overall, fantastic! In the Men’s race, Richard Roberts also had a fantastic run coming in an amazing 6th overall, with Dewi Owen also running very well, coming in 31st in a field of 117 runners!
Well done everyone for making the trip down and for your efforts on the day!Full results here: http://www.welshathletics.org/media/957312/ir-xc-2015-results-programme.pdf

Muddy Mold XC

Well done to all 27 Eryri Harriers who braved the mud, rain and wind of Mold XC – if you’ve forgotten what it was like, it wasn’t a day for standing around and chatting, but it was a fantastic day running-wise! Brilliant results and even better to see people who have been away for a while due to injury, back running in their vest – fantastic!
We had an amazing turnout, for both the men and women. In the ladies race, Andrea Rowlands (11th), Beckie Taylor (12th), Annabel McQueen (14th) and Becki Law (18th), followed very closely by Tammy Lewis-Jones (21st), Helen Blair (26th) and Annie Williams (37th). Was great to see Lou Beetlestone coming in a solid 38th, back after a chest infection, Sandra Rowlands in 43rd also back after foot problems and Ellie Salisbury (51st) nursing an injured collar bone – you guys are troopers! Brilliant also to see Alison Donnelly (76th), Alex Fletcher (81st) and Maggie Oliver coming in at 91st.
Also churning up the fields in the first race of the day was 1st V70 Don Williams who was 52nd, Ryan Owen who was 3rd and Steffan Williams who was 6th (U17).
The men’s race was fantastic with Rob Samuel winning the event outright, looking ever-strong also after injury, and making the mud look like smooth tarmac! Similarly, it was great to see Rich Roberts (also nursing a few niggles) who had a great run coming in at 4th and Dewi Owen a fantastic 16th! Matt Fortes paced it well and came in a strong 26th position followed by another injury-beater Adrian Williams (34th). In his first cross-country this season, Sam Green had a strong run coming in 42nd , with SPJ in 44th and fresh from Dubai! Huw Owen, Arwel Lewis (83rd) and Paul Hodges (97th, 1st cross country EVER!) packed well with the Steve Ll Jones coming in 141st (how many XC’s have you done Steve!?).
So, the all-important team results…Eryri ladies are still first in the seniors and masters, with the men’s team maintaining second and the master’s mens team are 5th – well done everyone!
Next fixture is on Saturday 16th January at Walford College, Baschurch, Shewsbury, SY4 2HL. A minibus will be going, more details to follow nearer the time. Cheers and have a wonderful festive season and the rest of the XC season too – I’ll be back in April and the wonderful Maggie Oliver will be keeping things going whilst I’m away too.
