Russell's Treble Header

Russell Bentley certainly had a busy weekend competing on; Trail, Fell and Road. On Saturday morning, Russell won the latest Penrhyn Castle Parkrun in a time of 16:49 which was only 2nds off his PB for the course. Russell’s late change of footwear for fell shoes were quite apt for some parts of the course! Later on that afternoon, Russell competed in the Pipe Dream fell race followed on Sunday by what he described as a training run, finishing 2nd in the Wrexham Marathon in a time of: 2:38:24. Race winner Daniel Weston (2:34:07) was also using the event as a training run! in preparation for the Celtic Plate 100k at the end of the month in Perth Scotland. Andrea Rowlands was an impressive female winner finishing 11th overall in a time of 3:02:05 ahead of 12th placed Paul Wathan 3:03:18 while Gemma Morgans finished 63rd (3rd S/F) in a time of 3:59:43. Pipe Dream Race results & report

Results of today’s Pipe Dream race from Dolgarrog.  Pipe Dream 2016

Photos from Steve Jeffrey

The first half dozen leaders unfortunately went off the course, led astray by last year’s winner and course record holder Math Roberts, and despite a valiant effort by the time they realised their error there was too much work to do to get back in front.
The race was won by Mark Davies of North Wales Road Runners, who took advantage of the wanderers, hanging onto a margin of 45 seconds from Buckley’s Simon Edwards, and Eryri’s Paul Jones.
The Ladies win went to a recent returnee to the fold of Eryri Harriers, namely Miranda Grant, who led her next rival by over two and a half minutes, showing fine form for a successful forthcoming season.  That rival was Eryri’s Lizzie Irving, herself no slouch but apparently not so quick on the descent.  Gemma Brown of NWRRC took third.
The outstanding result of the day was Ellie’s Ladies v50 record being broken by 6 seconds by Sarah Barnwell who is also clearly on form for a promising 2016 in that category.  She left all some distance behind her, including the v40 runners.
Apologies for publically stating she had broken it by 7 minutes, next time I shall check my source’s information!
Other Eryri prizewinners were:
Paul Jones, 2nd v40.
Louise Emery, 1st v40.
Ellie Salisbury, 3rd v50.
Don Williams, 1st v60.
Everyone seemed to enjoy it, even those who did some extra mileage!  86 runners, of which 18 were Eryri members.
Regards,
Craig.
