Llandudno XC Report

Llandudno cross country – great turn out in storm conditions

Well done everyone on what sounded like a pretty epic cross country last weekend in Llandudno. Massive well done to all and thanks to Stuart McDonald and Mike Blake (and anyone else who was there!) for the support on the field too. And what a great turnout considering the weather!

The junior races in the morning saw Eryri’s James Blair coming a fantastic 20th in his U11 boys race and Efa and Mabli Baines coming 10th and 11th in the U13Girls race – da iawn guys, brilliant efforts all round – hope you enjoyed it.

Rob Samuel, in his debut in the league this year raced well through the mud to win the overall – fantastic run and well done! Russell Owen also braved the storm and had a great run coming in 35th overall and 2nd V55. Paul Jones, Stephen Jones (1st V60 – well done SPJ!), Ben Beachell and Gary Porter-Jones, followed by Barry Davies and Harri Roberts also ploughed round the course, brilliant effort everyone. In the men’s teams, we have now moved up to 5th place overall for the seniors, and 4th place in the masters – brilliant.

A fantastic run from the everstrong Don Williams meant he came second overall in the O70 category too – it is definitely worth mentioning that there were ELEVEN OVER 70’s running around in Storm Brian last Saturday and two of them were OVER 80 – hands up who wants to be like them when you are older!

Huge well done to the ladies too – Andrea Rowlands had a brilliant run, coming in 3rd overall, followed by the Eryri stalwart ladies Megan Hughes, Helen Blair, Annie Williams, Ellie Salisbury, Alison Donnelly and Maggie Oliver all braving the elements and enjoying the fun! In the ladies teams we are now in 3rd for the seniors and 2nd in the masters. Well done everyone!

Next fixture is on Saturday 25th November in Bangor, more details to follow but dust off your baking trays and start thinking about cake baking! We need LOTS! And we need helpers/marshalls and runners too – let me know if you can help.

SMARNA GORA, SLOVENIA. Saturday 7th October 2017

SMARNA GORA, SLOVENIA. Saturday 7th October 2017

All three Welsh athletes competing in the Smarna Gora, World Cup race in Slovenia on Saturday 7th October excelled themselves with excellent performances. On the challenging, mainly uphill 9.5k/650m course, Wales were led home by the experienced Rob Samuel in 14th place overall with a time of 46.26 followed by: 41st & 5th Female – Bronwen Jenkinson in 53.48 and the very inexperienced, but very talented, up and coming 17 year old Annabelle McQueen who finished 60th overall and 1st under 20 female finisher with a time of 57.41. Team Manager Paul Jenkinson also ran well to finish 94th in a time of 66:08.

The event attracted a high quality field and was won by Norway’s Johan Bugge in a time of 42.27 while the very experienced and former Marathon Olympian (London) and 6 time World Mountain Running Championships winner Andrea Mayr (Austria) was the first female finisher in 20th place overall in a time of 47.40.

A very good European elite mountain running event from which our athletes performed very well and will have gained valuable elite competition experience.

A special thank you for the fantastic welcome from the Smarna Gora Race organisers, especially Tomo Sarf who is also the General Secretary of the WMRA.

London Marathon

Don’t forget the new method of allocating the club’s allocation of London Marathon entries.

London Marathon Eryri Ballot:
Each year Eryri are allocated a handful of places. To be eligible for one of these places, the following rules will be in place for 2017 & the foreseeable future. Members must:

1. Be fully paid first claim club members.
2. Attend the Christmas club fun run.

3. Priority will be given to members who entered the London Marathon Ballot and were rejected. Evidence of rejection needs to be provided. (This needs to be for the same year)

4. If the number of members with rejection notices is lower than or equal to the number of places available then they will receive an automatic right to the place.

5. If the number of members with rejection notices is more than the number of places then names will be drawn for the places.

6. If there are still club places available after step 4 above, then the remaining place(s) will be allocated by means of an open draw.
