2nd British Championship race/ 2nd race in Eryri Club fell running champs:
Ras y Moelwyn
The second British Championship race came to the beautiful Moelwyns this Saturday. Conditions were balmy in comparison to the Northern Ireland race, with a breeze just to make it feel like you were properly in the mountains, and a touch of cloud on the summits to keep everyone on their toes but no need to wear full kit before even starting the race. Phew.
There was an excellent turnout from Eryri with 27 runners getting stuck into the race, with excellent runs all round :-). Full results attached below but heres a brief run-down:
The Men: 1st Eryri to cross the line in a very tough field was Russell Bentley in 15th place (and 1st Local), followed closely by Richard Roberts in 17th place and an excellent 2nd V40 placing in a very competitive category.
3rd Harrier in was Tom Wood, also claiming 2nd in the U23 category.
Russell Owen had a cracking race, coming in 1st V60, and also providing top route finding in the mist (i think alot of non-local runners were thankful for that!). There were many good runs across all age categories, so well done everyone!
The Ladies: Maggie Oliver had a great result coming in 1st V70. There were good result in the V50 category with Sarah Barnwell coming in as 4th V50, Nia Albiston and Megan Hughes placing well in the V40 category, and great placings from Becki Law, Jacki Artist and Lucy O’Donnell in the Open Women category.
The club did excellently in the Team prizes, placing 3rd in both the Mens and the Womens’ Open team prize :-). Da’i iawn pawb!
This race was also Welsh Athletics mountain hill running championship. Ill provide a link to the results when they are published on the Welsh Athletics website but there were some excellent results from the club.
Well done every one! Next race in the British Championships is The Great Lakes on the 15th June.
