Gemma Moore was Eryri’s star performer at the windswept Rhyl 10 mile (North Wales Championships) race on Saturday 22nd February. The event was also a club counter in our Road Running Championships, only the 2nd to date following two postponements due to the weather.
548 competitors braved the gale force winds at Sunny Rhyl for the out and back 10mile event to Prestatyn and back. Running the bad weather route did not make much of a difference, wind assisted all the way to Prestatyn before the turnaround and the battle against the wind and once on the seashore, the windswept sand.
Shaun Jackson (Chester Tri) won the event in a time of 56:35. The first Eryri Finisher was 12th placed (North Wales Gold Medal MV/35) 59:05 followed by: 15th (North Wales Silver Medal MV/45)  Nic Brook 60:10. 21st (North Wales Silver Medal MV/35) 62:35. 30th (North Wales Senior Silver Medal) Keiren Jones 65:18. 33rd (North Wales Bronze Medal MV/45) Michale Coyne 66:26. 46th and North Wales Overall 10 mile Champion; Gemma Moore 69:07. 56th (North Wales Gold Medal MV/60) Arwel Lewis 71:01 & 454th (Gold Medal MV/70) Roy Jardine 1:51:25.
Well done to everyone who braved the gale force winds and the event organisers: RunWales for putting the event on in challenging weather conditions.
