Welsh B&I Junior Mountain Running Championships Trials
BETWS-Y-COED – SATURDAY 22nd AUGUST 2015

The event will take place on an up and down loop course to Llyn Elsi & back
The courses will be marshaled, and marked at any points where the route isn’t so obvious.
There will be four races as follows:
- 10:45am: Welsh B&I Junior Men/Women U/17 Race 4.2k/228m (1 loop)
- 11:30am: Junior Women’s U/20 Race 4.2k/228m (1 loop)
- 12:00pm: Senior/U23 Women’s/Junior Men’s U/20 Race 8.3k/445m (2 loops)
- 13:00pm: Senior/U23 Men’s Race 12.3k/660m (3 loops)
The prize giving will take place in the Royal Oak/Cotswold Outdoor Main Car Park at 3.00pm.
Entry is on the day only, apart from those pre-entered by their national federations for the senior home international competitions, and costs £8 per athlete for all senior events and £5 for all junior events. Registration is in the Royal Oak/Cotswold Outdoor Main Car Park. Registration from 10:00am.
The senior/under 23 races are open to athletes born before 1996. Although the senior races incorporate the senior home international events, the races are open for all to enter. Please note however that only those eligible for UKA team selection may gain ranking points in the BA Mountain Running Challenge. Individual and team medals will be awarded for the senior home international competition, see separate section below.
The junior races are open to athletes born in 1996 to 2000 inclusive. No younger athletes may compete in the junior races.
Race 1 Incorporates Welsh British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships U/17 trial race (Born 1999-2000).
Race 2 Incorporates Welsh British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships U/20 trial race (Born 1996-1998)
Races 2, 3 & 4 incorporate the trial races for selecting GB teams for the World Mountain Running Championships.
All competitors must bring water/wind proof long sleeve top and bottoms, hat and gloves and must be prepared to carry them if the organiser specifies they must do so (in the event of inclement weather). Failure to comply with any minimum kit rule will result in disqualification.
Any athlete who retires from the race must report their retirement to a race marshal.
The event HQ/Registration is at the Royal Oak/Cotswold Outdoor Main Car Park
At the Village Green/Cae Llan Changing Rooms. Station Road
There are several Pay and Display car parks in the village ranging from £2.50 (4hrs) to £3.50 (8hrs) and £5 All Day.
Senior Home International
The event incorporates the 2015 BA Mountain Running Senior Home International. Teams have been invited from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and only those selected by their national federation will be eligible for the purposes of scoring and SHI prizes.
Teams for both the women’s and men’s events comprise a maximum of six athletes. Up to four of the athletes may be seniors (born before 1993), with the remainder of the team to be made up of under 23 athletes (born within the years 1993 – 1995 inclusive).
Medals will be awarded to the first three individual finishers in both the male and female senior and under 23 categories. There will also be team medals for the first three male and female national teams with the first four finishers to count. Note that for team scoring, there will be no differentiation between senior and under 23 athletes.
World Mountain Running Championship Trial Races
The races will incorporate the trials for selecting GB teams for the 2015 World Mountain Running Championships. The selection policy for the event can be viewed here…
Note that for the purposes of selecting the senior GB teams, senior athletes are defined as born before 1996, i.e. incorporates the senior home international under 23 age group.
Only athletes born in 1996 to 1999 inclusive are eligible for GB junior team selection.

2015 BA Mountain Running Challenge
The 2015 BA Mountain Running Challenge is a senior competition comprising three events:
16th May: Inter Counties Championship – Gwydyr Forest. Betws-y-Coed. North Wales
31st May: European Mountain Running Championship Trial – Glenridding, Cumbria
22nd August: World Mountain Running Championship Trial – Betws-y-Coed. North Wales
