Great turnout at Wrexham XC

Well done to all Eryri members who made the trip to misty Wrexham and gave it their all in a good old-fashioned blast around the school playing fields. Junior results to follow too!

There were 12 men and 11 ladies altogether, all helping to bring the men’s team up to an impressive 2nd place, with the ladies team maintaing a strong lead in 1st place. The ladies Masters team are currently in 2nd place, with the men’s masters team improving to 4th position.

Running in men’s race, Fred Maier led the Eryri Men home (9th overall), closely followed by Owen Roberts, Craig Jones, Matthew Fortes, Steve P Jones, Arwel Lewis, Kean Rowlands, Eurwyn Edwards, Steve L Jones and Dave Kirby.

In the ladies race, Andrea Rowlands (2nd lady) was followed by Louise Emery-Jones, Becki Law, Megan Hughes, Lou Beetlestone, Helen Blair, Sandra Rowlands, Joanne Moore (congratulations on 1st run back!), Alison Donnelly, Maggie Oliver and Becca Roberts. Running in the same race, John Spill had a fantastic run, coming in 1st overall and in the U17 age category, with Don Williams running well to come in 78th overall.

Well done to all and many thanks to Arwel/Lou for making sure the bus got there and back!

XC inter-regional and Masters champs

Eryri Harriers are well-represented in the selections for this years Inter-regional championships in Builth Wells on 13th December.

Annabelle McQueen, Michael Spill, Gethin Davies, Bronwen Jenkinson, Becki Law, Hayley Turner, John Spill, Steffan Williams, Owen Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Andrea Rowlands, Louise Emery-Jones, Megan Hughes, Dylan Jones, Sandra Rowlands, Helen Blair, Ellie Salisbury, Stephen Jones, and Arwel Lewis have all been selected – not everyone can make it but still well done for their selection!

This event also forms the Welsh Masters championships (which you don’t need to be selected for), so if you are a Masters athlete (35+) and would like to run, please let me know by Friday 5th December at the latest.

Wrexham XC – next Saturday 29th November

Come and support the club at the next fixture – the women’s open teams are currently 1st and the men’s open team are 3rd – we are doing a great job!

Don’t forget it’s free to enter, there’s free transport and it’s free to be part of this great team event.

Preliminary plans for the bus include first pick up at Parc Menai (LL57 4HJ) at 11am (TBC), followed by pick ups along A55, returning with to Parc Menai 5.30/6pm. Women’s race 2pm, Men’s race 2.45pm.

Llandudno XC – a blustery blast around a beautiful course

At the 2nd cross country fixture at St David’s College, Llandudno there was another fantastic  turnout of 28 Eryri runners – very well done to everyone, some even managed to fit in a double-header of running events this weekend!

Results in the first race of the day included a strong run by Andrea Rowlands (4th lady), Bronwen Jenkinson, Megan Hughes, Louise Emery-Jones, Hayley Turner and Helen Blair, followed by a speedy pack of runners including Ellie Salisbury, newcomer to the cross-country league Jill Riley, Sandra Rowlands, Emily Wood and Alex Fletcher. Emma Green, Alison Donnelly, Tamsin Fretwell, Becca Roberts and Maggie Oliver brought the team home with another solid performance. Also running in the same race, Steffan Williams (U17) ran fantastically to finish 14th overall with Don Williams (M70) finishing in an impressive 59th overall.

In a the men’s race, Math Roberts (2nd male overall), Fred Maier, Owen Roberts, Steve P Jones and Arwel Lewis and Stuart McDonald ran brilliantly, followed by another debut in the cross-country league Derek Weaver, with more excellent packing by Paul Jenkinson, Ed Harmer and Eurwyn Edwards – fantastic running all round!

Excellent start to XC season – Senior ladies, both Masters teams 1st and Senior Men 2nd


A brilliant turnout with fantastic running at last weekends Treborth Cross country has brought the Eryri Senior Ladies, Masters and Men’s Masters teams into first place, with the Senior Mens team in 2nd place behind Bangor University – EVERYBODY makes a difference in these races so well done to all and let’s carry on this excellent start to the season!

In the Men’s race, a speedy second place overall by Math Roberts followed by Dylan Jones (2nd M40), Fred Maier, Matthew Fortes, Anthony Woodhall and excellent packing by Steve Jones, Gary Porter-Jones, Stuart McDonald, Arwel Lewis (3rd M55), with Ed Harmer, Paul Jenkinson, Kean Rowlands, Steve Ll Jones and Eurwyn Edwards (back from injury!) bringing the Senior Mens teams home with a second place in the league and first place for the Male Masters team.

The Eryri ladies were lead home by 3rd place overall Andrea Rowlands (1st F40), 10th placed overall Bronwen Jenkinson (2nd U20), 1st F35 Louise Emery-Jones, followed by Megan Hughes (2nd F35) and Annie Williams (2nd V50) . Coming in 29th, 31st, 32nd and 33rd, good packing by Becki Law, Sandra Rowlands, Lou Beetlestone and Hayley Turner, with Helen Blair, Ellie Salisbury and Ali Thomas following close behind and Emily Wood, Alex Fletcher, Tamsin Fretwell, Jenny Williamson, Becca Roberts and Maggie Oliver (2nd F65) all helping to bring the Eryri ladies into a fantastic first placed positions in the league.

Running in the same race, John Spill (2nd U17) and Steffan Williams in his cross country debut ran brilliantly representing Eryri in the U17’s category, with Don Williams flying the M70 Eryri flag coming in 3rd in his category – brilliant!

Very well done everyone for braving the first cross country of the season, great to see so many runners and wonderful to see the efforts repaid!

Fantastic turnout and brilliant running at Treborth XC on Saturday

What an amazing turnout – there were 18 Eryri ladies and 14 Eryri Men at the first fixture of the North Wales Cross Country League on Saturday – a huge well done to everyone!

1st, 2nd and 3rd Eryri ladies home were Andrea Rowlands, Bronwen Jenkinson and Louise Emery-Jones with John Spill, Steffan Williams (U17s) and Don Williams (V70) also running excellently in the first race of the day. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Eryri home in the mens race were Math Roberts, Dylan Wyn Jones and Fred Maier. A huge thank you to the amazing team of helpers who made sure the event could happen in the first place – Sue, Eric and Becca Roberts, Mair and Wils, Mike Blake, Craig Jones, Ellie Salisbury, Iorweth Roberts, Maggie and Alwyn Oliver, Ross Roberts, Trefor Jones, Arwel and Ann Lewis, Sharon Owen and Caron Jenkinson last but definitely not least Matthew Fortes. These people helped with everything from marking and taking down the course, marshaling, car parking, refreshments, the all-important timekeeping and more. Cross Country this Saturday and beyond

Support your club by running in this weekend’s Cross Country fixture at Treborth, Bangor – Sat 4th.

The next fixture after that will be on Saturday 18th at St Davids College, a challenging XC venue.  Refreshments afterwards in the canteen – raising money for the school link project in Uganda.

Start times are always 2pm for ladies and 2.45pm for gents.

All XC’s are Free to enter !!!!!!!!!  

And remember – regardless of how slow you might think you are you definitely do help the team by pushing back another team’s runner, so come on and join us and help the club to bring back the trophies this year.

Bangor XC – Cake reminder

Looking forward to the first cross-country fixture of the season on Saturday 4th October – get ready to don your Eryri vests and enjoy a good (free of charge) blast around Treborth.

We also need lots of cakes  – any type would be brilliant!

In addition to cakes, we may also need some more marshalls/helpers, please let me know if you are not running and can help on the day.

At  Y Caban, Brynrefail – 7pm for food, 8pm meeting start.  Always a good social as well as sorting out club business; free hot food!


Sat 22nd November – Club Charity Quiz Night

At the Siabod Cafe, Capel Curig.  Experienced quizmaster with a running theme as well as general knowledge.  This is a new event, to be repeated if it’s popular. Taking place on the evening of the Pen Fell Race.  7pm for 7.30 prompt quiz start. Only £2 on the night – all proceeds to charity.


Sun 21st December – Xmas Fun Run

From the Royal Victoria Hotel, Llanberis.  9.30 registration, 11am race start.  Be early to avoid the rush.  Fancy dress competition, junior races, raffle and guess the Santa.  Soup and mince pies.
