UK Intercounties Cross-Country

UK Intercounties Cross-country results – Cofton Park

Four Eryri athletes ran at this event at Cofton Park, Birmingham. With a pretty impressive field of runners from all over the UK (approx. 3000 in total), it was another world (for the likes of me!) and great to have the opportunity to be a part of.

The North Wales Senior Ladies completed a fast 8K course, including Eryri runners Becki Law (242nd, 35.41) and Wendy Trimbel (245th, 35.50) contributed to a team placing of 27th overall.

It doesn’t look like the North Wales Men’s team had enough to count this time, but Dan Kashi ran well to represent the area in a tough 12K course coming in 215th in 40.31.

In the U17 ladies, Bronwen beasted it round her 5K course coming in 211th in 24.29.

Very well done to everyone who took part and a good day trip out before the presentation evening.

Despite previously thinking it would be televised live, the highlights are actually shown tomorrow 12-12.55pm on Sky Sports 2 and repeated at various points, see link http://www.radiotimes.com/episode/ctkqym/athletics–uk-inter-counties-cross-country-championship

Good Luck Tomorrow

Good luck to the runners in the Inter-Counties Cross Country tomorrow.

Well done and good luck to Bronwen jenkinson, Becki Law, Wendy Trimbel and Daniel Kashi who are running for North Wales in this event at Birmingham’s Cofton Park this Saturday!

Should be exciting for all involved, and it’s televised too if you fancy Eryri-spotting – programme schedule to be confirmed –

Cross Country

Cross Country – final report – the results are in!

Well done to everyone who represented the club during this season’s cross country league – results to be proud of!  Big thanks also to Jenks and Arwel for making sure we all got there and back.

Oswestry also gave us some mud, wind and rain to be proud of too – there wasn’t much hanging around, apart from for cakes and prizes! Gritty determination on the day by Craig Jones, Ali Chant (brilliant job in his first ever cross country), Arwel Lewis, Dylan Owen, Steve Jones and Dave Kirkby with a great turnout from the ladies too including Andrea Rowlands, Bronwen Jenkinson, Wendy Trimbel, Becki Law, Megan Hughes, Hayley Turner, Sandra Rowlands, Ellie Salisbury and Helen Blair.

At the end of the cross-country season, here are the overall results….

The ever-strong Don Williams was first M70, Arwel 3rd M55, with the male vets team coming in at an impressive 3rd in the league overall! The Senior Men’s team, with valiant efforts to bring us up from the bottom came in at 4th – just missed out on 3rd by a 6 point margin!

Eryri ladies were 2nd in the league overall, Andrea and Megan were a fantastic 1st and 2nd overall in the F35 category, with Andrea coming in at 4th overall in the ladies category too! More trophies for Ellie Salisbury who was 3rd in the F50 category, Maggie Oliver who was 2nd in the F65 category and last but not least, Bronwen was also a fantastic 3rd FU17.

It goes without saying that these achievements are not easy to come by – it takes considerable commitment, effort and willingness to battle it out in what can be quite a fast and furious field! Very well done and thank you to everyone who represented the club throughout the season.

Becki

P.S. I have a bag full of shiny medals and trophies, will see you soon (you hopefully know who you are!).

The full results will be posted to the NWCCL website eventually, link here.

Nick Beer 10k

NICK BEER DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR ERYRI

It was a case of a “Double-Double” success for Eryri at the annual Llandudno Nick beer 10k on Sunday 9th February with Rob Samuel winning the race for the 4th successive year, Siobhan Evans won the women’s title for the 2nd year running and both the men and women won the team titles! In all, there were 31 Eryri Harriers competing in what were dry but windy conditions especially at the summit of the Great Orme.

Rob led an Eryri 1-2-3 to win the event in a very good time despite the windy conditions of 31:48 ahead of Matt Roberts 33:51 and (Great to see Gwyn Owen back in the Eryri vest) 34:45. Next in for Eryri and running well again was 6th placed Daniel Kashi 35:22 followed by: 20th (3rd MV/40) Craig Jones 38:05. 21st Dewi Owen 38:16. 22nd Adrian Williams 38:22. 27th Paul Jones 38:57. 28th Huw Owen 39:04. 30th (1st Female) Siobhan Evans 39:07. 36th (3rd MV/45) Gary Porter-Jones 39:48. 42nd Ali Chant 40:14. 44th Jason Parry-Jones 40:27. 46th (2nd MV/55) 40:43. 52nd Tim Watson 41:19. 75th Jonathan Tyler 42:47. 80th Dylan Owen 42:57. 155th Megan Hughes 46:47. 167th Becki Law 46:55. 209th Christoph Gertler 48:27. 231st Nic Brook 49:18. 233rd Hayley Turner 49:18. 236th Helen Morgan 49:29. 270th (3rd FV/45) 50:45. 287th Harri Roberts 51:14. 335th Alex Fletcher 53:49. 344th Emma Green 54:22. 401st (1st FV/65) Maggie Oliver 56:32. 453rd Martin Williams 58:31. 502nd Iorwerth Roberts 61:34 and 535th Iolo Roberts 64:35.

In all there were 609 finishers in the well organised North Wales Road Runners Club event.

A special mention to the Eryri Harriers who doubled up during the weekend having also run for the club at Oswestry in the final race of the North Wales Cross Country League the previous afternoon in wet, windy and muddy conditions: Craig Jones. Ali Chant. Arwel Lewis. Dylan Owen. Becki Law and Hayley Turner.

Gruelling Glyndwr

Gruelling Glyndwr – North Wales Cross Country Championships results

I wasn’t there so I can’t really explain the full extent of the weather that passed over Glyndwr last weekend, but I’ve heard it was a pretty dramatic, electrifying storm of thunder, lightning, hail and freezing cold wind for most runners – well done to everyone who took part! The lights went out in the main hall a couple of times too!?

Brilliant placings by Nathan Jones (1st), Math Roberts (3rd), Dan Kashi (5th ), Gary Porter Jones (14th), Arwel Lewis (20th), Dylan Owen (29th), Kean Rowlands (36th), Paul Jenkinson (40th), Steve Jones (47th) brought home the Men’s Team prize – fantastic!

The ever-present Don Williams (O70) was 2nd, with Eurwyn Edwards coming in 5th for his first race as an O60 – great efforts all round.

More fantastic running from the ladies with Andrea Rowlands (2nd), Wendy Trimbel (6th), Sandra Rowlands (13th), Ellie Salisbury (23rd), Hayley Turner (26th), Alison Donnelly (28th) and Maggie Oliver (33rd). The Senior Ladies finished with 2nd team, with the Masters Ladies winning 1st place by 2 points (every little helps!). Competing in the U17 category, Bronwen Jenkinson was 3rd. Brilliant!

I’m banging the cross-country drum just a little bit more until next weekend – Sunday 8th February at Owestry, free bus and free run!

We need lots more runners to try to keep us in medal positions so please contact Becki Law: bex85@msn.com or 07922968636 if you can run.

Thanks,

Becki.

Cross Country Update

Cross Country update – call for runners at the last fixture of the season – Oswestry, Sat 8th February 2014

Current standings are as follows:

After a fine showing at Lilleshall (great efforts from Richard Roberts, Nathan Jones, Craig Jones, Matthew Fortes, Arwel Lewis, Adrian Williams, Paul Jenkinson, Kean Rowlands, S L Jones, Stuart Mcdonald, David Kirkby), the Eryri men have managed to move back up to 4th in the league – medal positions would be fantastic!

The Male Masters (included above) and Senior Ladies team are currently at a brilliant 2nd in the league (well done to Bronwen Jenkinson, Wendy Trimbel, Andrea Rowlands and Becki Law).  Not too far away from 1st place!

Very well done to all of those runners who made the trip to the North Wales XC championships at the weekend too – I am informed of some fantastic running through hailstone storms – full results to follow!

Want to run at Oswestry?

As before, please contact Becki Law (bex85@msn.com or 07922968636) to let her know, including whether or not you’d like to travel in the minibus (first stop 10.45am at Parc Menai, Bangor).  As before, the more the merrier and apparently there’s nice cakes afterwards at the prize giving too!

For anybody who wants even more – the Welsh XC championships is in Llandeilo on Saturday 15th February. See link below for details:

http://www.welshathletics.org/competitions/events/cross-country/2014/02-feb/welsh-cross-country-championships—llandeilo.aspx

NOTE: Please let me know if you want to run. For an athlete to compete they must be eligible to compete for Wales (i.e. born in Wales, parents are Welsh, lived continuously in Wales for 2 years).

Cheers,

Becki.

Bumper turnout at Lilleshall

Bumper turnout at Lilleshall!

Despite a broken gearbox, help from Colwyn Bay to get runners to the 2pm start, and a fantastic effort from Bronwen who joined the race by sprinting straight from a replacement minibus, the ladies managed to field a team. Brilliant running from Don Williams too (MV70)!

Very well done to the team of 11 Eryri men who made it to brave the worsening quagmire at 2.45pm, it was definitely tough going by that point!

First Eryri man was Rich Roberts in an amazing 2nd place, first Eryri woman was Andrea Rowlands in an amazing 5th. Full results to follow later but in the meantime, very very well done to EVERYONE, a great team effort! So good to see lots of Eryri vests, looking forward to the next one – 8th February in Oswestry.

P.S. Anyone interested in even more mud – it’s the North Wales Championships in Northop on Saturday 25th January see the following link for information.

http://www.northwalesxc.com/entryforms.htm

And don’t forget the final race of the North Wales Cross Country League which takes place at Oswestry on Saturday 8th Feb.  We need a big turnout to get us in the medal positions.

Becki.
