Brilliant at the Bay

Brilliant at the Bay – XC results so far and this week’s fixture

Cross country again next weekend, and last one for 2018, on Saturday 10th November at Ysgol Morgan Clywd, Wrexham LL13 9NG. Free minibus going if numbers warrant it, please let me know if you’d like a space, leaving 11.30am from Parc Menai, Bangor with pick ups along coast. Junior races are on in the morning too.

Anybody new to cross-country very welcome, along with all those who know and love it. The course at Wrexham is quite different to the hills of Colwyn Bay, with a flatter profile but still as hard (or as easy) as you want it to be. Look forward to seeing lots of Eryri vests once again!

Results from the last fixture have seen the senior men’s team move up from 7th overall into 5th overall – let’s keep this up! The male masters team are in 6th. Both ladies teams were 1st on the day and are currently 3rd overall in the senior ladies category and 5th overall in the lady masters category. Again, brilliant efforts that would be fantastic to continue, let’s keep going! See full results by following this link:https://www.northwalesxc.com/results

Rory O’Donnell

Gyda chalon drom a thristwch mawr y ffarweliwyd & Rory O’Donnell ddydd Mercher, y Sed o Fedi. Cynhaliwyd y gwasanaeth yn Eglwys Gatholig Dewi Sant a’r Santes Helen yng Nghaernarfon. Roedd yr eglwys dan ei sang ac yn dystiolaeth i’r holl fywydau y cyffyrddodd Rory & hwy.

Gydol y gwasanaeth daeth cariad Rory tuag at redeg mynydd i’r amlwg, yn enwedig yn nheyrnged ei frawd Huw yn adrodd hanesion am gerrig gwynion amhosibl eu darganfod a helynt colli awyren.

Daeth hyn a chwerthin i amgylchiad mor drist, ond roedd chwerthin yn rhan bwysig o fywyd Rory, yn enwedig tynnu coes. Gan ei gyd-weithwyr clywsom fel y gallai adrodd stori gyda wyneb syth cyn cyrraedd ei diwedd a gorffen gyda gwén fawr a ‘dim ond joc’!

Roedd rhai geiriau’n taro tant arbennig. “Y gwasanaeth mwyaf teilwng y gallwn eiroi, nid yn unig i Rory, ond i ni’n hunain hefyd, yw byw ein bywyd gyda’r sél a’r ymroddiad a roddodd ef i fywyd.” Dyna fodd arbennig o anrhydeddu Rory.

O gofio cariad Rory tuag at redeg ar y mynyddoedd, addas iawn oedd i’r haul dywynnu arnynt ar ddiwrnod ei ffarwelio. Bydd colled am ei wén heintus a’i awch am fywyd a rhedeg.

Mae meddyliau holl aelodau’r clwb gyda Kelly a’r bechgyn, y teulu, ei ffrindiau a’i gyd-weithwyr.

Gorffwys yn dawel Rory, a rhed yn rhydd.

It was with heavy hearts and great sadness we said farewell to Rory O’Donnell on Wednesday 5th September. The service held at the Catholic Church of St. David and St. Helen in Caernarfon was superbly attended showing just how many people’s lives Rory touched.

Throughout the service Rory’s love of fell running was highlighted particularly by his brother Hugh telling stories of impossible to find white stones and missing flights home. This brought some laughter to such a sad occasion and by all accounts laughter was another of Rory’s loves, and in particular winding people up. His work colleagues telling us how he would do it with a straight face right up to the end before cracking a huge smile and saying ‘only joking!’!

Some words spoken struck a chord. “The greatest service we can do not only to Rory but also to ourselves is to live our lives with just some of the zeal and zest for life he did.” This sounds like a fantastic way to honour Rory.

Rory loved running in the mountains and it seemed entirely fitting that on this day, the sun shone brightly on the mountains he loved so much. His infectious smile and enthusiasm for life and running will be sorely missed.

The thoughts of the whole club are with Kelly and the boys, family, friends and colleagues.

Rest well Rory and run free.
