Club Presentation Eve Update

We plan to go ahead with the Club Presentation Eve on Saturday evening in the hope that the worst of the Beast from the East will have passed. Paul at Caffi Moel Siabod is planning to open as normal tomorrow (Fri) & Sat, & the info we have re. the forecast for Sat eve is as follows: ‘No weather warnings. Dry. Temperature zero.’ Therefore get your glad-rags ready – we will rock!!

(If there are any significant changes to Saturday evening’s weather predictions, & we feel it’s wiser to cancel the event, I will post here by mid morning on Sat)

Welsh XC championships – Swansea

Welsh XC championships – Swansea
HUGE WELL DONE! Bronwen JenkinsonTammy Ddrwg Lewis-Jones, Helen Blair and James Blair were down in sunny (yay!) Swansea this weekend competing in the Welsh cross-country championships. Bronwen was an amazing 5th overall (1st U20W) and brilliant to see Tammy back running in the XC to come in 34th (5th FV45), closely followed by Helen Blair in 35th who was 2nd V50 in the Welsh Champs – really fantastic efforts and results everyone! James Blair also had a great run (and sprint finish apparently!) in the Primary boys race and came 44th (and nearer to the front than the back!). You guys are awesome, very well done. See link for results and great group photo from Neale Lewis-Jones below – thank you!

Oswestry XC

Oswestry XC – trophies for the overall league

Final cross-country league news and we have brought back the senior and masters ladies winners trophies again and we have also managed to stay in Division 1 – well done to EVERYONE who took part this year!

We had a super 6 strong team of men at Oswestry with Richard Roberts having a fantastic battle with third place and came in second overall, withMatthew Fortes coming in 16th overall, followed by Russell Owen (52nd), Ben Beachell (70th), Arwel Lewis (77th) and Eurwyn Edwards (128th).

The ladies also had a fantastic turn out with Bronwen Jenkinson coming in first lady, followed by Miranda Grant in (4th), Andrea Rowlands (5th), Becki Law, Helen Blair, Ellie Salisbury and Viv Edwards. Huge congratulations to all who took part across the league this year.

There were some fantastic overall individual performances in the league too with Matthew Fortes coming second in the V40 category. Andrea Rowlands was 3rd senior lady overall in the league and 1st V40. Helen Blair was 3rd in the V45 category and Viv Edwards was 2nd in the V60 category.

This is fantastic to see as it is hard enough completing enough races in the league, but also amongst a high standard of runners. Really nice to see the hard work pay off – congratulations everyone! Becki

Special award for Arwel – congratulations

Special award for Arwel – congratulations

Very proud of and grateful to longstanding club member Arwel Lewis who was awarded the wonderful Arthur Bebbington Trophy for ‘Special Endeavour’ and contribution to the North Wales Cross Country League at this years league presentation. This is extremely well-deserved as he is without doubt an amazing contributor to the league having sat on committees for Wales, North Wales, ran for Wales and North Wales in XC events all over the place, refereed XC events, having completed at least 100 XC league races, as well as all of the other things he regularly does voluntarily for the club (and others), including arranging and driving the bus to and from many events! I’m sure there is even more he has done which he has just got on and done, and continues to do, without us knowing. Huge congratulations Arwel from everyone, this is fantastic!

Last fixture of XC league this weekend

Oswestry – all needed and all welcome!

We need as many runners as possible at this weekend’s cross country in Oswestry (Marches School, SY11 2AP) as the men are in danger of relegation and the women are close to first place in both the seniors and masters! Please note the earlier start time of 1pm for the ladies, U17s and O70s, and 1.45pm for all other mens categories. Free bus going, please contact Becki Law for details:

Shrewsbury XC – snow and river crossings

Shrewsbury XC – snow and river crossings

Tough going but fantastic team effort from all!

What a XC! Snow coming down on route to Shrewsbury meant cold, slushy wet fields, a brilliant deep river crossing (cold), another deep ‘field’ crossing (cold too!), lots more muddy tracks and fields and a wall to jump – it was hard but exciting. I was really proud of everyone yesterday – a) for making the trek there, b) for putting their all into what really was a tough, tough day and c) for still smiling at the end of it. You guys are awesome!

So huge well done to Miranda Grant and Andrea Rowlands who brought the ladies home in 3rd and 4th place, followed by Helen Blair, Becki LawEllie Salisbury, Alison Donnelly and Viv Edwards. The same goes for the 4 fantastic Eryri men who kept the Masters team going strong – Matthew Fortes(18th overall), Arwel LewisRussell Owen and Eurwyn Edwards. Really, really well done. Full results will be available on the NWXC website.

Big thanks to Arwel and Matthew for getting us there and back safely on the bus and to Shrewsbury AC/Bernie Jones and co for putting on such a great day despite the weather. The cakes, sandwiches, tea and coffee in a lovely warm sports hall after were much appreciated!

Next, last and all important league fixture + prize giving is on SATURDAY 3RD FEBRUARY IN OSWESTRY WITH AN EARLIER START TIME OF 1PM FOR THE FIRST RACE AND 1.45PM FOR THE SECOND RACE. More details to follow but please let me know if you would like a space on the free bus.

Cheers, Becki

Thanks Russ for the photos, sorry we didn’t get everyone, too cold!

British Athletics Cross Challenge, Antrim

Eryri representing Wales at the British Athletics Cross Challenge, Antrim

Whilst we were at Rhug, two other Eryri ladies were flying the flag for the Welsh team in Antrim, Northern Ireland at the British Athletics Cross Challenge – Bronwen Jenkinson was 14th female overall (3rd U23, also helping the Welsh team to second) in a strong field including some top international runners and Annabelle McQueen was also amazing, coming 13th overall in her race (8th U20) in another strong field – very well done ladies!
