Mold XC

Mold XC – Great turnout for first race of season!

HUGE well done to everyone who made the trip to Mold on Saturday for the first XC of the season, brilliant to see so many people!

In the first race of the day, we had 9 ladies – Megan Hughes was first Eryri lady home (17th overall and 3rdW40), very closely followed by Helen Blair (18th overall and 2nd W45). Tammy Lewis-Jones was next in 28th, again closely followed by Louise Emery-Jones (30th). Annie Williams had a strong run and was 37th and 1stW55 (stretching is good for you!), followed by Becki Law (39th), Ellie Salisbury (56th), birthday girl Hayley Turner (67th), and Maggie Oliver (3rd W65 and 99th). Brilliant effort everyone!

In the second race of the day with nearly 200 runners, we had a fantastic turn-out for the men too – well done all! Matt Fortes ran a brilliant race overtaking as he went along  to come in 19th overall, with strong runs also from Hugh O’donnel (37th), Arwel Lewis (83rd overall and 2nd M55), Anthony Bethell (great to see back, wins the prize for longest journey of 1.5h and in 95th), Gary Porter-Jones (118th), Eurwyn Edwards (166th) and the XC stalwart Steve Lloyd  Jones (178th).

Provisional results are as follows and in the attached file:

Senior men are currently 5th, with the vets in 11th.

Senior ladies are currently 2nd, with the vets in 2nd place too.

Brilliant start for the season – also bearing in mind it was an ‘away’ fixture, the relays were on and the marathon is coming up!

Next event is closer to home at St David’s School, Llandudno on bonfire night – Saturday 5th November. Look forward to seeing you there! Becki Law (bex85@msn.com)

North Wales Cross Country League

Lots of exciting races about at the minute but here’s a quick reminder of the upcoming cross-country season, starting in just over a month! Dates for the diary, please note different order of fixtures from previous years:

15th October 2016 – Mold

5th November 2016 – Llandudno

** 26th November 2016 – Bangor ** Eryri are hosting so also need lots of marshalls, helpers and cake-bakers please! 🙂

14th January 2017 – Shrewsbury

4th February 2017 – Oswestry

Remember, this is something for EVERYONE – as long as you are a full first claim member of Eryri Harriers (i.e. you don’t belong to another club as your ‘first claim’, ask me if you’re not sure), it is free of charge, just turn up in your vest and run. It’s a great club/team atmosphere to support, good for keeping fit over the winter and the more the merrier! All women sections plus Under 17 Men and Over 70 Men at 2-00pm (approx 5k). Under 20 Men, Senior Men and all Male Masters, 40-69, to follow at 2-45pm (approx 10k).

There is also a Junior series for runners who are not 15 on 1st September – see attached file for details. The North Wales Champs is on 28th January 2017, in Corwen. More specific details of all races to follow and are available: http://www.northwalesxc.com/

Bike Style Tops

It has been suggested that we should make available to purchase some bike style tops. You know the ones with the short zip, pockets at the back and sleeves. A lot of runners also bike so we thought it was a good opportunity to have some more Eryri kit! On a practical level it has been suggested that the pockets are ideal for kit when running (saves using a bumbag) and also ideal for those autumn day runs when a vest is a bit skimpy but any more clothing and you’ll boil!

Please could you let a member of the committee know if you might be interested in one (I have already told myself!) and we’ll crack on getting some ordered. Designs/styles are being looked into at the moment so let us know and we’ll get them sorted.
