Free 1 day Coaching Course on offer

The club is offering one member the opportunity to attend an official LiRF training course to become a qualified coach for the club.  Costs associated with the training will be paid by the club, we only ask in return that you genuinely intend to use the qualification for the good of the club.

This will allow you to officially coach both seniors and junior runners.  We already have one qualified coach, namely our Chairman and Junior Trainer, Paul Jenkinson.  Paul however could always do with a hand with the juniors occasionally.  The person attending this will also be well qualified to help out at the other training nights.

If interested please get in touch with Arwel Lewis asap on 07772 302411 or

N Wales Junior Fell Champs

Thanks once again to the faithful few, Eryri, Prestatyn, NWRRC and parents who turned out to assist and make the day go smoothly. This year it was the turn of Colwyn Bay to take the bulk of the medals, again the main star being Michael Roberts breaking his own North Wales record in the U14s, with team mate U12 record holder Holly Roberts winning the U14 girls.  The sole Eryri medalist be Caitlin Forrest 2nd in the U10 girls.

Thanks must also go to X-Ray Mineral Services, Sinclair Steel, Mostyn Estates, Conwy Council and the Orme Country Park for allowing us to use such a cracking venue.

Joe Brown Midweek Series

Joe Brown Midweek Series

Midweek Series 2013 overall results

How about those midges? Little buggers, 4 days on and my lumps still haven’t gone down. Well done to the record breakers, JP V40, Bronwen U16 and especially Steve Toogood in the V50 who slipped in under my radar 35 sec ahead of Arwel, sorry Steve, I owe you an egg!

Overall Series winners and prizes went mostly to plan with the exception of Aled E and Tracey Ll who took 4th and 3rd respectively, while a good run by Sarah B on the night gave her the F40 title.  Although Math always had control in the senior men, the ladies had always looked a close run thing, Bronwen taking the early victories, Lisa not taking her first win till Aber, but victories in the last two races ensuring that the Simon Forster perpetual trophy went back to scally land for the second consecutive year.  Thanks to all those who have helped on the series: marshals, race organisers who spend their time marking the mountains, and Ellie and Lou who coped with the juniors registration, and parents who don’t know their own child’s ages. All were rewarded with a bottle of wine.

Record turn out at the races, over 280 taking part and almost 100 doing the 4 counters. Thanks to marvelous support by Joe Brown Shops we were able to donate nearly £300 on the race nights to the local worthy causes, provide prizes in each category at every race, give some financial assistance to Al Tye and Pete Douglas for their web photos and also donate £100 to the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Service. For the overall Series, 25 prizes were awarded whilst all those who had done all 10 races but hadn’t received a prize were also awarded £10 JB vouchers – it pays to stay the distance.

Caernarfon Tyres Junior Championship – A massive 40+ turnout on the night and over the series there were more than 40 doing at least 4 races. In the U8s Twm Owen and Megan Roberts scored a maximum 4 points. In the U10s Connor Roberts and Beth McEachern did likewise. Ollie Wilde and Ceri Vaughan ruled the roost in the U12s, likewise Sion Jones and Catrin Donnelly in the U14s. The Alun Vaughan perpetual trophy from commitment were awarded to Ollie Wilde, and for the second time Mared Evans. Alun Williams graciously took time out from his time trialling to award the trophies and finishers medals, and the full results table will be on display soon.

The series seems to get bigger attendance and more records broken each year!  But I will cherish the framed picture of Emily chasing me down on the Welsh 1000ms race, just to remind me to “must try harder”.  Now for Race the Train.

New runners welcome.

Any questions phone Paul on 07787578401.

Could you give something back to the club?

Have you enjoyed the benefits of running?

Have you enjoyed the efforts by others who organise races and events?

Ever thought of putting something back into the sport?

Would you be interested in helping out with coaching junior club members?

The club currently has a trained coach in the form of Paul Jenkinson who organises and manages the weekly coaching sessions for our juniors from Llanberis. However Paul has limited time available and we could really do with another person to help him out and fill in the gaps.

To that end the club committee have agreed to fund another coaching course for the right person.
The course involves 2x weekend training inputs.

If you know someone else who would be interested please pass this onto them, even if they are not currently club members. It is not essential that the person is a current runner, though this of course would be beneficial.

Perhaps someone at the end of their running career looking for other ways to stay involved and enjoy participation in the sport, or maybe someone who was a runner in the past.

Becoming a coach doesn’t mean you need to be an expert on running, and you don’t have to join the committee!

In the last 12 months we have seen new junior members join and also an increase in the numbers of juniors attending races. Lets keep that momentum going.

If you need further information please contact Paul on 07787 578401, or myself to discuss.

Thanks for reading.
