Races require organisers

All Members,

Most of you will know that Ross Powell was the long standing organiser of a number of popular races.  Due to his recent ill-health he will no longer organise his races, and as a result new organisers are being sought otherwise they will not go ahead in 2014.

Ross has requested that they remain insured under the WFRA code and insurance (you just need to be a member to be covered).

The races are as follows –

CARNEDDAU

Y GARN

MOEL HEBOG

I think you will agree that we cannot allow these three great races to discontinue.  If you are able to step up and take one or more of them on then please contact Ross asap.   penybuarth@talktalk.net

A degree in rocket science is not required to pull together a fellrace; you just need to put aside a bit of time to put something back into the sport that you love.  Along the way you can receive guidance from loads of fellow organisers, and it’s also very rewarding.  You could even do it jointly with someone else.

Thanks,

Craig.

Alastair Tye

26/9 – Update on the update !…

Al has tonight moved to the Eryri Hospital, Caernarfon.  Earlier than expected, so good news.

Go visit him.

Update for Alastair.

Visited Al in Ysbyty Gwynedd yesterday.  He is a little improved, but has now been diagnosed with a serious stroke, which has left him without the use of his left arm and leg, and right eyelid.

He has however retained some sense of humour, though unsurprisingly he’s pretty unhappy with his situation.

He will be in Prysor Ward for at least a couple of weeks and he welcomes visitors.

Comments to the website so far have been passed onto him.

Craig.

Pete Douglas RIP

Pete Douglas

It is with great regret that I have to announce the sad passing of Peter Douglas.

Pete was a fantastic volunteer photographer and marshal and will be greatly missed by countless people in the world of athletics, but mainly for those involved in fellrunning, to which he contributed all of his spare time for the benefit of others, with nothing expected in return.

At this years club presentation night Pete was made a lifetime honorary member of Eryri for his services to fellrunning.

Further details will be posted here in due course.

Craig.

3/9/13 Update –

Many of you have been enquiring about Pete’s funeral.  The answer is that at Pete’s request there won’t a public funeral to attend.  There is however an intention to arrange something to celebrate Pete’s life.  Details will be posted here and other places once this has been decided.

Peris Help Required

Extra help is required at this years Peris Horseshoe Race on Sat 14th September.

If you can help please don’t leave it late to get in touch as there’s a lot of planning to do.  Marshals are needed at both low and high points.

Appreciation

Some appreciation for Mike Blake in this great little article in a recent edition of Trail Runner Magazine.

As the article mentions, Mike does a huge amount.  He is also just one of an industrious minority who contribute to running events in our area.  A big thanks to all of you out there, not least the Eryri committee who give up their time to run the club.
