Sun 21st December – Xmas Fun Run

From the Royal Victoria Hotel, Llanberis.  9.30 registration, 11am race start.  Be early to avoid the rush.  Fancy dress competition, junior races, raffle and guess the Santa.  Soup and mince pies.

URGENT – marshals required for this weekend’s Peris

At least 4 marshals are required for this Saturday’s Peris Horseshoe Race from Llanberis.

Nine regulars are unable to help this year so we are appealing for those not planning to run who can spare some time to assist by walking up a hill.

When people say the phrase, “these things can’t happen without…”,  it’s actually true, this race cannot go ahead without marshals.

If you can help contact Mike Blake on 07778 145144.

Pete Douglas Memorial – Tryfan 23rd August

It is almost 12 months since Pete passed away, and he has been missed, most publically by the huge gap he left in the world of Welsh fellrunning photography.  Along with Al being unwell we have lost a great a contribution to the sport.

At Pete’s own request no funeral was held, something which some people found strange, but his wishes were respected.

On Saturday 23rd August a memorial will take place for Pete immediately following the Tryfan Downhill Dash. The race time is to meet at 2pm, at which time those competing will climb to the summit, with the race starting when everyone gets there.

Pete thoroughly enjoyed the Tryfan Downhill, and in fact it was the last race he filmed and photographed before he passed away, and he used it to test a new lens he purchased that week.

This year, when everyone get’s/falls back down there will be a prizegiving and then at approx 3pm a simple celebration of Pete’s life and appreciation of the contribution he gave to people by way of a few words spoken.

Everyone welcome, regardless of whether you want to run this crazy race, or just watch the drama unfold and then pay your respects to Pete.  If you feel you want to say something on the day feel to do so and let me know.

Craig.

Are you a paid up member?

All members should have paid their annual fee by now.  If you haven’t for whatever reason please get in touch with Emma Green, the Hon. Membership Secretary (go to the membership tab above for details).

You can rejoin by paying by online bank transfer, the details are all there.  Just remember to use a reference so Emma knows who has paid; your member number is best.

Please be aware that if you have not rejoined under WA rules you are no longer eligible to compete on behalf of the Club at road races, and won’t be able to compete at cross country at all, and in fact if you do then you may cause the club to have points deducted for fielding an ineligible runner.

We’re all proud to wear the famous Eryri vest, lets just make sure we’re members!

The Club has been allocated from Welsh Athletics, two pairs of tickets of £40 for the Commonwealth Games Athletics on Saturday August 2nd.

Queens Baton Relay

Eryri club members carrying the Queen’s Baton – Thursday 29th May

With a 6.45am start from Llanberis, 5 athletes from Eryri Harriers (Craig Jones, Alun Vaughan, Bronwen Jenkinson, Matthew Roberts and Rob Samuel) will take it in turns to carry the baton the 5 miles up to the summit of Snowdon where they will meet Sir David Brailsford along with London 2012 Paralympic Gold medallist Aled-Sion Davies MBE. The baton will then be transported on the Snowdon Mountain Railway back to the station in Llanberis.

Throughout the day, the baton will also visit Beaumaris, Menai Bridge, Caernarfon, with the final event being the Eryri Harriers ‘Plas Menai to Caernarfon’ 5k race, which has been developed especially to coincide with the baton’s visit. The start of the race will see 1958 Commonwealth Games athlete Dr Dewi Roberts set the runners off on the 5km run. To greet the runners into the dock area there will be a vertical dance display provided by Cwmni Cofis Bach and a choir from the local secondary school, Syr Hugh Owen. Their performances will be made at the Galeri Centre, and the public will be able to view the completion of the race as well as the performances from the view points along the dockside.

The public are encouraged to visit the events that are open event, which are in Beaumaris, Menai Bridge, Padarn Lake Llanberis and Victoria Dock in Caernarfon. The other events are ticketed or closed session due to capacity or safety issues.
