Who to insure your fellrace with?

The club committee have agreed that any Race Organiser who is organising a fellrace on behalf of the club may obtain a race permit/insurance from whichever organisation they deem fit.

This removes the obligation decided several years ago that they must obtain it from Welsh Athletics/UK Athletics.

This decision recognises the fact that the burden of responsibility for race organisation and safety lies primarily with the Organiser, and therefore responsibility for meeting the permit issuers’ rules and regulations also lies with them.

The committee recommends that in order to reduce the risk of falling foul of litigation/disciplinary action Organisers should examine closely the rules and regulations pertaining to the permit they have received and ensure that their own race organisation meets them.

Northern Ireland trip update

20 people have confirmed their attendance on the Northern Ireland weekend away, details here:

http://www.eryriharriers.org.uk/northern-ireland-club-trip-march-2014/

This means space is now tight – depending on the number of houses we opt for, basically at present there’ s space for another 2 people……but that could be 8 or at the most 14, but as I state all depends on number of houses.

Anyway get in touch if you’re interested…….

Fell running news

A brief report on the actions of some Eryri members over the last two weeks.

C0rndon Classic

Excellent to see club chairman Paul Jenks back in action after a recent hiccup. Jenks finished commendably in 20th in 53.13. Meanwhile Bronwen Jenks ran well to finish 5th lady but 1st under 20 lady in 60.43.

Jubilee Plunge

Strong descending by Gary Porter Jones saw him finishing in 5th overall in the Plunge in 11.55, just 1.10 behind winner Ifs Richards. Ellie Salisbury was the other Eryri finisher in 46th in 17.21.

Auld Lang Syne

Paul and Bronwen Jenks were back in action on New Years eve in the classic Auld Lang Syne where a bumper 425 finished. On what is a very fast course Bronwen starred to finish as first under 18 – in which was a highly competitive field – in a time of 59.25, less than a minute and a half earlier her Dad Paul finished in 139th in 57.57 – she’ll get him before long! As per usual a number of runners ran in some outrageous costumes!

Northern Ireland Club Trip

It’s time to get organizing the annual trip to Northern Ireland for the British champs race on March 29th.

This year’s race will be a new race and up a new mountain for many – none other than Northern Ireland’s highest peak – the 850 metre Slieve Donard. The race will be a classic short measuring in at 7.5k / 4.7 miles with  a monster 850 metre / 2789 feet of climb, starting and finishing in Donard Park in the town of Newcastle.

Details:

http://fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=3372

Historically there has  been a big Eryri crowd of 20+ heading over to race so a good chance to race in a new area. The post race party is always a big highlight!

Online entry will be on this page in the new year:

http://www.nimra.org.uk/

The usual plan is to head over on the ferry at appx. 1800hrs on the Friday and return on the Sunday at  appx. 1500hrs. Eryri will contribute to transport costs to all club members.  Accommodation is always a highlight, the club annually uses the following set of cottages:

Providing we fill them, the cost is usually very cheap and are an excellent location, a few miles from Newcastle and on the coast.

So get in touch if your interested – quickly, as trip often fills early.
