Ruthin 10k

Back in February, on Sunday 25th, Paul Wathan was a race winner again as he triumphed in the Ruthin 10k with a time of 36:08. There were 201 finishers.

Podium 5k race at Barrowford

With the Cheshire 10k postoned due to the parking fields being waterlogged, Rob Samuel had to make do with the Podium 5k race at Barrowford, Lancashire where on the fast 5 lap course, Rob finished 2nd overall in a time of 14:40 behind race winner Mohammad Abu-Rezeq (Alrincham) 14:24 with Tom Lancashire (Bolton) 3rd with 14:43 in what was a high quality race.




3 Eryri Harriers were competing at Wrexham on Sunday 11th March at different distances.

In the Marathon, there was a PB time of 3:09:35 for Nic Brook as he finished 16th overall out of 182 competitors.

Russell Bentley won the 20 miler by four minutes in a time of 1:56:45 ahead of 335 finishers while Arwel Lewis finished 12th (1st MV/55) in a time of 1:29:43 in the Half Marathon where there were 233 finishers.

A very good day for racing at Wrexham as the weather was dry with very little wind on the quite tough race routes. A very good well organised Run Wales event.


25 Eryri Harriers were amongst the 1056 finishers in the Jones Crisps Anglesey Half Marathon (Always Aim High event) on Sunday 4th March. Run in much warmer and dry conditions of late with only a slight headwind on the way out towards Beaumaris & Llanfaes on the very undulating course. Eryri were led home by John Parkinson in 17th position overall with a time of 1:23:14 with Elliw Haf being the first Eryri female finisher in 2nd place overall with a PB time of 1:32:01. The only Eryri category winner was Maggie Oliver FV/70 in a time of 2:14:33.
The event was won by Bangor University Student Callum Davidson (Rossendale Harriers) in his first Half Marathon with a time of 70:50 ahead of Tom Roberts (Meirionydd) 72:48. Elliw was beaten into 2nd place by Lucy Williamson (Ilkley Harriers) 1:24:04.
In the 10km race, there were 4 Eryri Harriers amongst the 417 finishers with Catherine Connell 8th overall and 1st female finisher in a PB time of 38:52 while it is good to see Eryri founder member Malcolm Jones still competing very well, finishing 61st overall and 2nd MV/60 in a time of 50:23.
The event was won by Mike Roberts (Deestriders) with a time of 34:37.
A well organised Always Aim High event.

Club Presentation Eve Update

We plan to go ahead with the Club Presentation Eve on Saturday evening in the hope that the worst of the Beast from the East will have passed. Paul at Caffi Moel Siabod is planning to open as normal tomorrow (Fri) & Sat, & the info we have re. the forecast for Sat eve is as follows: ‘No weather warnings. Dry. Temperature zero.’ Therefore get your glad-rags ready – we will rock!!


(If there are any significant changes to Saturday evening’s weather predictions, & we feel it’s wiser to cancel the event, I will post here by mid morning on Sat)


There was another PB for Catherine Connell in the latest Penrhyn Parkrun on Saturday 24th February in dry conditions for a change, finishing 7th overall in a time of 19:09 (19:13). There were 229 finishers.


5 Eryri Harriers were amongst the 1,874 finishers in the Village Bakery Half Marathon at Wrexham on Sunday 25th February. On a dry, cold and sunny day, with only a slight breeze. Tom Charles (Trafford) led everyone home in a time of 68:42 with 35th placed Sophie Cowper (Rotherham) the first female finisher in a time of 77:25. First home for Eryri was 190th placed John Davies with a PB time of 87:46 (Previous PB – 93:28) followed by: 230th Arwel Lewis 89:27. 248th Jennifer Charlton with a PB time of 89:54 (93:31). 300th Jonathan Ervine, also with a PB time of 91:53 (94:21) and 380th Steffan Evans 95:14.
The event was the third counter in the Eryri 2018 Road Running Championships, the 4th counter of the 10 events is the Borders League 5 mile race at Mold on Sunday 8th April with a 11am start. Best 5 scores from 10 to count.
1st – 25pts
2nd – 22pts
3rd – 20pts
4th – 19pts then one point less per finisher – 5th – 18pts. 6th 17pts. etc.

Borders Road Running League – Caernarfon 10k

13 Eryri Harriers represented the club in the Borders Road Running League – Caernarfon 10k on Sunday 18th February.
On a dry and warmer day than the usual cold weather of late, running in a anti-clockwise direction up the Aber-Foreshore and into a slight breeze, race times were quicker compared to the last time a Border league race was held on the course on 9th October 2016. First into the Coed Helen Playing Fields finishing area was Deestriders Gareth Williams in a good time of 32:19 followed by Stephen Skates (Presatyn) 32:52 with Ricky Challinor (Buckley) 3rd in a time of 33:30. The first female finisher was Amie Bagnall (Prestatyn) 38:49 ahead of June Swift (Helsby) 39:20 with former two time winner of a Borders League 10k race in Caernarfon, Sarak Kearney (Wirral) 3rd in a time of 39:57.
The first Eryri finisher was 31st placed Arthur Connell in a time of 36:59 followed by: 83rd John Davies 40:04. 95th Steffan Evans 40:48. 110th Ali Chant 42:06. 112th (2nd MV/55) Arwel Lewis 42:09. 117th Guto Rhys 42:23. 118th Math Llwyd 42:25. 136th Gary Porter-Jones 43:41. 141st Ashley Wager 44:06. 148th and our first female finisher Becki Law 44:27. 163rd Megan Hughes 45:21. 167th Helen Blair 45:27 and 218th Jenny Heming 49:19. There were 298 finishers.
On the day, Eryri’s women finished 4th in their 2nd Division while Eryri’s men placed 5th in their respective 2nd Division. In the overall standings with three races to go: Eryri’s women are currently placed 4th while Eryri’s men moved off the bottom of the table one place up to 8th in their respective 2nd Divisions. Eryri’s women are currently running away with the Improvers Trophy of the 17 teams competing in the league. Well Done to All.
The next race is at Tattenhall on Sunday 4th March with a 11am start.
