Notice for your diaries: The Club Presentation Evening will be held on Sat, 9th March (Pipe Dream race day) in Llanberis, or within easy driving distance of Llanberis. All the usual stuff, including buffet/bar/presentation of awards to last season’s winners/surprise guest speaker etc etc. Everyone welcome. Venue/ticket price TBC in the next few days once the committee has made its decision on various quotes & options, so watch this space for a further announcement very soon…..

 

Road Running – Racing News

13 Eryri Harriers travelled over the water to Anglesey to compete in the 3rd race of the Borders Road Running League 2018/19 season at Trac Mon (Anglesey Racing Circuit) near Ty Croes on a very windy Sunday morning, 9th December. On the measured 5 mile race route, with no Ferraris, or other racing vehicles to worry about, the 261 runners had free use of the racing circuit. though, the strong winds put paid to any fast times. Eryri were led home by Emlyn Owen in 57th place overall in a time of 31:52 followed by: 83rd Ali Chant 33:30. 89th & 1st MV/60 Arwel Lewis 33:55. 165th and making her Borders League debut for Eryri Jaclyn Artist 38:37. 170th Becki Law 39:16. 171st & 1st MV/70 Emyr Davies 39:18. 176th & Eryri founder member Malcolm Jones 39:31. 199th and enjoying an outing on the “Road” Ellie Salisbury 40:50. 226th Jenny Williamson 44:24. 227th Alison Donnelly 44:28. 247th & 2nd FV/70 Maggie Oliver 47:57 and 255th Roy Jardine 52:12. In the team results, Eryri’s men were placed 6th and the women 3rd in their respective 2nd Divisions. In the overall team standings, Eryri’s men are currently placed 9th and the women 4th. The race was won by Joe Boden (Wallasey AC) 26:25. The first female finisher was Emily Kearney (Wirral) in 29th place overall with a time of 29:43. TELFORD 10km

On Sunday 9th December, representing North Wales, Rob Samuel finished 57th overall in the high quality race with a time of 31:11 while also competing for North Wales, Catherine Connell finished 355th and 42nd female with a PB time of 38:34. Amongst the 1228 finishers were: 289th John Parkinson 36:45 and 301st Arthur Connell 37:03.

The popular event once again produced fast times with 16 athletes under 30 min, 47 under 31 min and 88 under 32min. One to aim for next year!

It will be an opportunity to remember Rory and follow some of his favourite runs.

London Marathon Club Places

Don’t forget the method of allocating the club’s allocation of London Marathon entries.

London Marathon Eryri Ballot:
Each year Eryri are allocated a handful of places. To be eligible for one of these places, the following rules will be in place for 2017 & the foreseeable future. Members must:

1. Be fully paid first claim club members.
2. Attend the Christmas club fun run.

Selection.
3. Priority will be given to members who entered the London Marathon Ballot and were rejected. Evidence of rejection needs to be provided. (This needs to be for the same year)

4. If the number of members with rejection notices is lower than or equal to the number of places available then they will receive an automatic right to the place.

5. If the number of members with rejection notices is more than the number of places then names will be drawn for the places.

6. If there are still club places available after step 4 above, then the remaining place(s) will be allocated by means of an open draw.

Conwy Half Marathon

RECORD TURNOUT FOR THE CONWY HALF MARATHON
There was a record turnout at the Conwy Half Marathon on Sunday 18th November with nearly 3,000 finishers. The event which includes a lap of Llandudno’s Great Orme was being staged for the 10th time and the weather conditions were: Dry and sunny with a headwind to contend with as the runners descended the Great Orme which abated somewhat on the return journey back through Deganwy to the finishing line at Conwy.
The race was won by Gwyn Owen in a time of 75:27 and of those noted as being Eryri Members in the results were: (All Chip Times) 24th Eifion Williams 81:26. 29th Ian Edwards 81:57. 49th Nic Brook 85:40 (PB) 90th Brian Wills 88.28. 123rd Peter Rees 90.32. 125th Arthur Connell 90.51. 148th (8th Female) Catherine Connell 91.51. 165th (2nd MV/60) Arwel Lewis 92:32. 200th Mat Leonard 93.48. 235th Emlyn Roberts 94.59. 447th Kristin Luke 98.39. 526th Dylan Huws 1:40.25. 971st Chris Hoult 1.46.43. 1077th Gwenllian Dafydd 1.53.10. 2775th Kes Taylor 2.36.16 & 2762nd Iorwerth Roberts 2.35.27.

Borders League Report

A NEW HIGH for the BORDERS LEAGUE. A NEW LOW for ERYRI’S MEN
There was a record breaking turnout of 441 finishers for the 2nd race of the Borders Road Running League at Upton, Chester on Sunday 11th November unfortunately, it was a record low for Eryri’s men with only two members competing! Still, Eryri’s women yet again outshone their male counterparts with a full team of three competing.
On a damp but bright morning, and despite the early start time of 09:30am, the Chester Spring 5 miler course drew a record turnout for the League, the women’s turnout of 153 was also a League record with Helen Blair leading the Eryri Women’s team home in 267th place overall with a time of 38:00 closely followed by 272nd placed Becky Law 38:05 and 394th Alison Donnelly 46:00. All of whom had competed for the club the previous day at Wrexham in the North Wales Cross Country League. A superb effort and dedication to the club. Arwel Lewis had also competed the previous day at Wrexham and finished 147th overall and 1st Male over 60 in a time of 33:28 while Roy Jardine, competing in his 82nd Borders League event finished 422nd overall and 5th Male Over 70 in a time of 51:03.
Eryri’s women are currently 4th in their respective 2nd Division while Eryri’s men prop up the rest of the League!
The next race in the Borders Road Running League is more closer to home on Anglesey at Trac Mon, The Anglesey Racing Circuit. Ty Croes. Starting at 11am. Distance 5 Miles.
The event is free to enter, just turn up in your club vests and enjoy the race.

The second race of the Borders Road Running League 2018/19 season takes place this Sunday 11th November at Upton, nr Chester with an early 09:30am start.

Newborough Parkrun

Gwyn Owen added another Parkrun win to his total at Newborough on Saturday 3rd November with a time of 17:19. Helen Morgan was the first female finisher with a time of 23:33.

Also on Sunday 4th November; Rob Samuel was only five seconds off his PB when finishing 16th in a high quality race with a time of 30:26. There were 8158 finishers

ABERGELE 5 MILE. NORTH WALES CHAMPIONSHIPS

ABERGELE 5 MILE. NORTH WALES CHAMPIONSHIPS
5 Eryri Harriers were amongst the 200 finishers in the Abergele 5 mile race (Incorporating the North Wales Championships) on Sunday 4th November. Weather conditions were much improved from the previous days strong winds and heavy rain, the competitors only had a slight head wind to contend with on their return to the finish on the out and back race route. Leading Eryri home was 8th placed Alun Vaughan 27:58 winning the MV/40 Gold medal in the process, followed by: 43rd (1st MV/60 – NW Gold) Arwel Lewis 32:50. 52nd Dylan Huws 33:41, a PB for Dylan in his first ever 5 mile race! 171st Roy Jardine 49:35 & 182nd (NW – Bronze MV/70) Iorwerth Roberts 52:40. The race was won by Sale Harrier and former Eryri member Daniel Kashi in a very good time of 25:48.
