Parkrun Bangor

I contacted you a while ago about a possible Parkrun event in Bangor.

I’m very pleased to let you know that we have now received funding to go ahead with the event. The venue will be Castle Penrhyn, and the anticipated first official holding will be 1 November.

However, in order to ensure a successful start we are very keen to build up a strong volunteer base. I would really appreciate it if you could circulate the following link to your club members for them to sign up to help.

 Many thanks

Caernarfon 10k report (and more)

Over 200 runners turned out on a warm sunny day for the annual CEIR CYMRU Caernarfon 10km North Wales Championships event on Sunday 31st August and what a fantastic race it was.Pre-race favourite Tom Roberts (Meirionydd) just held on to win the race after a ding dong battle firstly along the Foryd from Dean Longley (Prestatyn), and then after dropping Dean and presumably thinking the race was won(!), local Menai athlete Steffan Sayer closed the gap significantly to ensure a sprint finish to the end of the race with Tom just edging it in a time of 34.03 and Steffan clocking 34.04 and a personal best time for the distance.  Dean Longley had to settle for a very good 3rd place in a time of 34.34.

Carwyn Evans (Menai) was 4th 35.41, ahead of the host club’s first Eryri finisher Dylan Wynn Jones 35.48 securing Dylan the MV/40 prize and with it, the North Wales MV/40 title.  Next in for Eryri was Dewi Owen in 8th place (3rd MV/35) in a time of 36.57 followed by another 12th Owen Huw Roberts 37.40.

Rob Samuel, representing a successful Wales team in the Inter-Area Match, finished 4th overall at the Wilne 10km near Derby on Sunday 7th September in a very good time of 30:59 where there were 858 finishers.
On the same day, Dewi Owen finished 58th overall in the Cardiff 10k in a personal best time for the distance of 35:57. There were 1500 finishers.

Would it possible to feature the event on your social media feeds or website at all? We would be very grateful for any advice and support.

Ras y Tren – results including juniors

Thanks to all the helpers last night especially Paul Carter who had to run the race (19 minutes), and then type in all the entries and feed all the numbers and times in ready for prize giving.

Well done Rob Samuel, his third victory, while Llanrug’s Kathryn Gray recorded her first.

Heatwave conditions ensured no records were broken, unless you count 15 gallons of water drunk, while 144 runners beat the train’s time of 23.33. The Coffi Roc case of beer went to Travis Trotters 80.54, ahead of Betsi Runaways 82.46.

That’s the last time I set the girls off after the boys ! Despite coming in 1st  and 2nd Eden and Jack suddenly found themselves relegated to 4th and 5th by the three girls who had started off 15 seconds behind them. Thanks to Chelsea and Neil from Tesco for attending and starting the race and for also funding the goody bags.
The North Wales Junior Fell Championships take place on the Orme 20th September, make a note in your parents diary kids, entry forms will be on our website from mid August.  Mike
