Borders League News

ERYRI’S WOMEN ON COURSE FOR THE IMPROVERS TROPHY

Eryri’s women ensured that they have the Borders Road Running League “Improvers Trophy” well within their grasp following the penultimate race of the 2017/18 season at Mold on Sunday 8th April. In ideal running conditions, dry with no wind, Helen Blair led the Eryri women home in 172nd position overall in a time of 36:05 followed by 281st Jenny Heming 42:04 & 299th Alison Donnelly 43:48. Eryri’s women finished 4th team on the day of the 10 teams competing in the 2nd Division and are 4th in the overall standings.

Disappointingly, only two Eryri men turned out for the club with Arwel Lewis completing his 125th Border League race (out of 134 races that Eryri have competed in) finishing 105th overall in a time of 32:44 with Ashley Wager completing his 61st Border League race, finishing 143rd overall in a time of 34:52. Not surprisingly, Eryri’s men finished bottom of the pile on the day and are placed 9th overall in their respective 2nd Division.

There were 333 finishers on the 5 mile undulatin course.

The final race of the season takes place on Wednesday evening 25th April to be organised by Deestriders.

In the overall Individual standings:

FV/45

5th Helen Blair

8th Jenny Heming

FV/50

5th Alison Donnelly

Podium 5k race at Barrowford

With the Cheshire 10k postoned due to the parking fields being waterlogged, Rob Samuel had to make do with the Podium 5k race at Barrowford, Lancashire where on the fast 5 lap course, Rob finished 2nd overall in a time of 14:40 behind race winner Mohammad Abu-Rezeq (Alrincham) 14:24 with Tom Lancashire (Bolton) 3rd with 14:43 in what was a high quality race.

RUN WALES – WREXHAM RUNNING FESTIVAL

3 Eryri Harriers were competing at Wrexham on Sunday 11th March at different distances.

In the Marathon, there was a PB time of 3:09:35 for Nic Brook as he finished 16th overall out of 182 competitors.

A very good day for racing at Wrexham as the weather was dry with very little wind on the quite tough race routes. A very good well organised Run Wales event.

JONES CRISPS – ANGLESEY HALF MARATHON & 10K

JONES CRISPS – ANGLESEY HALF MARATHON & 10K
25 Eryri Harriers were amongst the 1056 finishers in the Jones Crisps Anglesey Half Marathon (Always Aim High event) on Sunday 4th March. Run in much warmer and dry conditions of late with only a slight headwind on the way out towards Beaumaris & Llanfaes on the very undulating course. Eryri were led home by John Parkinson in 17th position overall with a time of 1:23:14 with Elliw Haf being the first Eryri female finisher in 2nd place overall with a PB time of 1:32:01. The only Eryri category winner was Maggie Oliver FV/70 in a time of 2:14:33.
The event was won by Bangor University Student Callum Davidson (Rossendale Harriers) in his first Half Marathon with a time of 70:50 ahead of Tom Roberts (Meirionydd) 72:48. Elliw was beaten into 2nd place by Lucy Williamson (Ilkley Harriers) 1:24:04.
In the 10km race, there were 4 Eryri Harriers amongst the 417 finishers with Catherine Connell 8th overall and 1st female finisher in a PB time of 38:52 while it is good to see Eryri founder member Malcolm Jones still competing very well, finishing 61st overall and 2nd MV/60 in a time of 50:23.
The event was won by Mike Roberts (Deestriders) with a time of 34:37.
A well organised Always Aim High event.
