Midweek Series latest report – Foel Lus
Joe Brown Midweek Series
Race 2 – Foel Lus
Well how about that then, 5.55pm, not a soul in sight; 6.55 and it was like the New York subway in rush hour. By the time I had registered the last runner I was considering making Petzels part of the kit, but we scraped by in the end.
A record 119 runners set off up the hill hotly pursued by 30+ juniors , last year’s winner and U18 record holder Colwyn Bay’s Nathan Jones setting the pace from Math Roberts and Russell Bentley. Russell took the lead near the summit safely negotiating the Cresta Run to win in 22.55, ahead of Nath (now a senior) 23.15 while Math, still feeling the effects of the Barcelona Marathon in his legs was 3rd in 24.17.
First v40 was John Parkinson, 6th in 25.05, 1st v50 Arwel 30th in 29.10, 1st v60 Phil Tan, 51st in 31.47 while an outstanding run by the Bay’s Jake G took the U18 in 14th in 27.00.
In the ladies race Bronwen Jenkinson continues to show no respect for her elders, winning in a new U16 record of 30.00, 35th overall in 30.00, ahead of Lisa Grantham 37th in 30.33, while Ali Thomas took 3rd & 1st F40 in 31.56 (52nd). The F50 win, after spending 2 hours clearing a path through the snow, was race organiser Ellie Salisbury, 61st in 33.21, while Maggie Oliver took the F60 in 111th in 40.30.
The consensus of opinion was that the course was definitely slower because of the snow but was safely negotiated by all. Full results will be on display at Pen Dinas next week but could be available sooner, watch this space.
Thanks to all those who helped on the night and the shops in Pen who donated the prizes allowing £30 to be donated to Team Dolly.
