Eryri club members carrying the Queen’s Baton – Thursday 29th May

With a 6.45am start from Llanberis, 5 athletes from Eryri Harriers (Craig Jones, Alun Vaughan, Bronwen Jenkinson, Matthew Roberts and Rob Samuel) will take it in turns to carry the baton the 5 miles up to the summit of Snowdon where they will meet Sir David Brailsford along with London 2012 Paralympic Gold medallist Aled-Sion Davies MBE. The baton will then be transported on the Snowdon Mountain Railway back to the station in Llanberis.

Throughout the day, the baton will also visit Beaumaris, Menai Bridge, Caernarfon, with the final event being the Eryri Harriers ‘Plas Menai to Caernarfon’ 5k race, which has been developed especially to coincide with the baton’s visit. The start of the race will see 1958 Commonwealth Games athlete Dr Dewi Roberts set the runners off on the 5km run. To greet the runners into the dock area there will be a vertical dance display provided by Cwmni Cofis Bach and a choir from the local secondary school, Syr Hugh Owen. Their performances will be made at the Galeri Centre, and the public will be able to view the completion of the race as well as the performances from the view points along the dockside.

The public are encouraged to visit the events that are open event, which are in Beaumaris, Menai Bridge, Padarn Lake Llanberis and Victoria Dock in Caernarfon. The other events are ticketed or closed session due to capacity or safety issues.
