Eryri’s Men Twin Piers Triumph
With four finishers in the top ten, Eryri’s men were clear team winners of the Llandudno to Colwyn Bay Twin Piers 10km race on Saturday 19th January.
From the off, the race competitors had to put up with a strong headwind in dry but very cold conditions hence the runners finishing times were slower than expected.
First overall was former Colwyn Bay now Trafford AC athlete James Bleakley in a time of 34.30 closely followed by Lee Jones (Deeside MV/40) 34.38 with Eryri’s Brendan Rothery 3rd – 34.45 with Daniel Kashi 4th – 35.30. Arthur Connell 9th – 37.10 and Paul Wathan on his last outing before moving to Canada 10th – 37.12.
Eryri’s men secured the team title ahead of Deeside with Eryri B 3rd. Eryri’s Tim Watson was 3rd MV/45 – 40.00 and Derek Weaver 2nd MV/55 – 43.19.
Eryri’s women finished 2nd team on the day behind hosts Colwyn Bay. The four being: 88th Gemma Morgans on her last outing before accompanying Paul Wathan to Canada; 45.58. 128th Tina McDonnell 49.29. 156th Hayley Turner 51.07 and 162nd Sioned Rowlands 51.13.
Eryri’s women did have the consolation along with their male compatriots of being the first winners of the Tom Watson Memorial Team awards. The 1st female finisher was Bangor University’s Sarah Kaskey in a time of 39.32.
In all, there were 274 finishers.
