Ups and Downs at Birkenhead

Categories: Road News

In the 4th race of the Borders Road Running League at Birkenhead Park on Sunday 13th January, 8 Eryri Harriers were among the 295 finishers in the fast 4 lap 5.5mile event.

On the plus side, Eryri had 3 runners in the top ten, on the minus side; Eryri only had 8 counters instead of the required 10 therefore acquiring more penalty points against them (600).

In still, cold and dry conditions; Brendan Rothery led the way for Eryri again finishing 4th overall in a time of 29:13, followed by:

6th Daniel Kashi 30:02;

7th and making a welcome return after a knee injury, Chris Evans 30:18;

51st Jos Jones 33:27;

156th and making his Border League debut, Bethel resident Richard Evans 38:12;

213th Christoph Gertler 41:09;

280th Roy Jardine 48:03 and;

285th Iorwerth Roberts 48:03.

Unfortunately, Arwel Lewis only managed one lap before pulling his right hamstring!  The race was comfortably won by Deeside’s outstanding young athlete Dave Mountford in a time of 27:27, well clear of club colleague Lee Jones 28:59 with Wrexham’s Daniel Weston 3rd 29:11.

Eryri’s men now find themselves bottom of the 1st Division and in serious danger of relegation with three races to go.

The next Border League race is a bit closer to home at The Anglesey Circuit, Ty Croes on Sunday 3rd February. A 5 mile event around the motor racing circuit.

Cheers,

Arwel.
