Eryri Harriers at Râs Wyddfa (our home race)

The 49th Royal Victoria Hotel Ras Ryngwladol yr Wyddfa – International Snowdon Race once again delivered one of the highlights of the Welsh fell running calendar, attracting an exceptional field of runners from across the Wales and beyond. With perfect summer conditions and fantastic crowds lining the streets of Llanberis and the slopes of Yr Wyddfa, it was another memorable day celebrating one of the world's most iconic mountain races

An incredible 41 Eryri Harriers proudly represented the club in this year's Ras Ryngwladol yr Wyddfa (full adults race), once again making our club one of the best represented clubs on the mountain. Many more children took parti n the Byw’n Iach Childrens Races – showing that our club has a bright future ahead of us.

From first-time finishers to seasoned veterans, personal bests to inspirational fundraising efforts, every runner played their part in another memorable chapter of our home race.

Here some of our member stories from the race: Eryri Harriers once again won the overall team in both Men and Women's Category. Llongyfarchiadau to those who lead the way:

Leading the way for Eryri Harriers in the men's race were Sion, Owain and Ian, producing outstanding performances against an exceptionally strong international field. Beating many International athletes and finishing strong (without falling this year)

In the women's race, Mabli, Jennifer and Elliw led the club home with excellent runs.

Many more Eryri athletes who proudly represented the club on our home mountain.

Our club members once again reached the top of Welsh mountain running! Efa Baines, Jaqueline Lee, Kieren Wynne Cattanach, and Cai Dafydd (second claim) (and former Junior Bronwen Jenkinson) were selected for team Cymru and competed with the best of the best this year.

Congratulations also to Darren Roberts, who proved that age really is just a number. Fifteen years after running 1:29, Darren returned to record an impressive 1:28 personal best at the age of 46. To make the day even more special, his daughter Moli completed her fourth children's race.

A couple of love birds flew up the mountain too. There were more personal bests to celebrate as Becca Parry produced an excellent run to finish in 2:21, while Alwyn Parry battled through the gruelling course to complete the race in 2:07.

Despite carrying an injury, Gary Julio demonstrated incredible determination to achieve an outstanding finishing time. Reflecting afterwards, Gary admitted there will always be the "what if", but showed the resilience that epitomises mountain running and has already set his sights firmly on breaking 1:35 next year.

Special recognition must also go to two remarkable club stalwarts. At 82 years of age, Brian Robbins once again completed this iconic mountain race, an achievement that is nothing short of inspirational and a testament to a lifetime dedicated to fell running.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Jones continued one of the most extraordinary records in British mountain running by completing every single Ras yr Wyddfa since the race began. His unwavering commitment over nearly five decades is a remarkable achievement and one that reflects the enduring spirit and tradition of both the race and Eryri Harriers.

For many, Ras yr Wyddfa represents far more than racing.

This year, Kelly took on the challenge to raise funds for Elsi, a five-year-old girl currently undergoing chemotherapy as she battles a brain tumour. Stories like these remind us why our running community is so special. We wish Kelly every success with her fundraising and send our very best wishes to Elsi and her family.

Perhaps the sentiments of Club Chair Nia Meleri of the day were summed up perfectly in a message shared after the race:

"Thank you and congratulations to every single member of the club who ran and supported on Wyddfa today. I was so proud to represent and know that each and every one of you makes this club what it is today. The running community, the Eryri area and races such as Ras Ryngwladol yr Wyddfa would be much poorer without you all. Remember to continue to be one team, one club, one community under the banner of our Eagle."

Whether you were racing, marshalling, cheering, helping behind the scenes or simply supporting fellow runners, every contribution helped make another unforgettable edition of this iconic event.

Remember to watch the TV Highlights on S4C Saturday the 25 of July at 19:00 and we hope to many more of you at next years race.
