🏔️ Eryri Harriers: Adventures, Achievements & August Highlights All Around the World!

A month of mountains, medals, marathons and memories. From Sydney and Prague to Ponderosa, Tryfan and Caernarfon — Eryri Harriers showed once again what community, courage and joy in running really look like.

Before you get into this blog - please consider signing up to Borders League and / Or XC Series this year!

We’d love to hear from anyone who wants to take part - there is no numbers limit!

Both series are completely FREE to enter, suitable for all levels, and a brilliant way to represent the club, make friends, be part of the community, run in different places against other clubs and have fun!

Please give name, D.O.B and URN

Everyone welcome – whether you’re experienced or new to racing. Come and run with us and represent Eryri. * BL - 1st or 2nd claim / XC 1st claim only. No need to do all races - can join in 1 or all!!!

🌄 Bryony Shircore: Lakeland 50 & Eryri Skyline Champion

Bryony took on her first official 50‑miler at the Lakeland 50 — finishing 7th female, in daylight, fuelled almost entirely by… a bowl of cereal (camping gas failure, ultra‑runner improvisation at its finest).

Days later she stormed to 1st Female at SkyRun Eryri®.

As Bryony said: “Huge thanks to SkyRun Eryri® and all the friendly faces who made this such a fantastic day 💗 Thank you to everyone who’s reached out to say well done 😍 it means the world 🤗”

Two races. Two triumphs. One unstoppable Bryony. Next up: Dragon’s Fire in September — POB LWC BRYONY.

🏃‍♀️ Sara Jacobs at Ponderosa Fell Race

Sara bumped into two Eryri rockets — Jenny Lee (“runs like a rocket”) and Alex, smiling as ever. Sara calls herself “the endless plodder”, but we know better — she’s a wonderful addition to every race she turns up to.

Her Welsh vocab is growing fast… and with a possible move to Conwy, we’re sure we’ll see even more of her on home turf. Cadw ati Sara!

🏁 Caernarfon 10K: Category Wins & Club Strength

Before a single runner crossed the start line, the Caernarfon 10K was already buzzing thanks to the incredible team behind it — Mari Rogers, Anthony Rogers, Rhian, Dyfed Whiteside Thomas and a whole crew of Eryri heroes who built a race out of cones, clipboards and sheer determination.

Even the unexpected ballet of campervans trying to join the event couldn’t shake the team.

23 Harriers lined up among 292 finishers. Standout results:

  • Noa Vaughan — 34:12

  • Huw Gwynn — 35:07

  • Jonathan Kettle (M50) — 37:12

  • Iolo Owen (M45) — 41:14

  • Margot Saher (F50) — 43:21

  • Glyn Griffiths (M60) — 45:10

  • Elliw Haf — 3rd female overall, 41:36

Garfield Jones: Mauerweglauf 100 Miles

Garfeild returned to Berlin for his tenth lap around the Berlin Wall. Prepared, hydrated, coping with 37°C heat — but just a touch too slow for the cut‑off this year.

Instead of heading home, he volunteered for 24 hours, guiding runners to the finish and sharing their triumphs. That’s Eryri spirit. Kit washed. Three more races planned. Onwards.

Tryfan Downhill Dash: Records Tumble

16 runners hurled themselves down Tryfan — and somehow no bones were broken.

  • Euan Patton (Dark Peak) smashed his own record again — 6:46

  • Bethan Wales — 5th overall, new U19 & U23 records

  • Ali Thomas — added the F60 record to her F40 & F50 collection

All entry fees donated to Ogwen MRS via Brian Robbins.

See the amazing downhill dash video by Euan:

⚡ Mid Cheshire 5K & Wirral Seaside Series

Across the border, Eryri runners shone:

  • Gemma Moore — first female in both Wirral Seaside races

  • Noa Vaughan — 15:05

  • Huw Gwynn — PB 15:29

  • Efa Baines — PB 18:23

🥇 Margot Saher Strikes Gold

Margot carried the green and red vest to victory at the Pwllheli 10K — first female. Brilliant running.

You may know Margot as an amazing member of the Club Committee - she's a wonderfull addition to the team and we thank her for her contribution on and off the race scene.

Fiona Morgan (and Hugh!) – Sydney Marathon

A 4am breakfast, a 7am start, 40,000 runners — and Fiona completing her 7th World Major Marathon in just over 4.5 hours.

Less than a year post‑cancer treatment, she’s raised awareness, funds and spirits. Post‑race beers were, of course, consumed. We’re so proud of you, Fiona (and Hugh 😊).

Kieran Wynne Cattanach: Piz Tri VK & Fletta Trail

One of our amazingly you strong Young athletes were on their travels and showing Europe what he can do once again! A fulfilling few days in Malonno — steep climbs, fast trails, and Italian hospitality. Kieran promises he’ll be back.

Edwards Family European Adventures

Ian and Nia Meleri Edwards (plus the kids!) joined a grassroots SABZO Praha forest trail 5K — very Tuesday Night Series vibes, very Czech, very fun.

Race‑timing tip from Prague ROs: Drink cans of lager while timing. (We’ll let our ROs decide.)

B

ack home, the whole family raced the Beast of Bryn Welsh Masters Trail Championships:

  • Nia — 3rd V40, 14th woman

  • Ian — broke the course record, 2nd V40, 4th overall

  • Ania & Ioan — brilliant junior runs Highly recommended race for anyone wanting a South Wales trail challenge.

Ras Pedol Peris – First Half Recce

A lively crew headed out for the first‑half recce of Ras Pedol Peris, soaking up the last of the August rain and fog. Great company, laughter, and that feeling of we’re all in this together as race day edges closer. Ziggy summed it up with a grin and gave a nod to the “glorious leader” Suzie guiding the group along the route.

Want to join in the fun? See you on the start line on the 19th of September.

❤️ What a Month. What a Club.

From Berlin to Sydney, Prague to Ponderosa, Tryfan to Caernarfon — Eryri Harriers continue to show what community, courage and joy in running look like.

If you have anything to add to the next newsletter or want to write a blog, we’d love to hear your stories. Contact Nia Meleri.
