Jennifer Charlton: An Eryri Harriers Legend. Amsterdam Marathon PB and Sub 3!

As Marathon Eryri approaches, many of us will be thinking about goals, nerves, preparation and whether all those training miles have been enough. It's also a good time to reflect on some of the people in our club who show us what long-term commitment to running really looks like.

Some people wear the Eryri Harriers vest. Others become synonymous with it. Jennifer Charlton is one of those people.

For many years, Jen has been at the heart of our club. A former committee member and Vice Chair, she has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, helping shape Eryri Harriers through her leadership, commitment and countless initiatives. But her contribution extends far beyond committee meetings. She's also a familiar face at training sessions.

Jen has represented Eryri Harriers time and time again, whether in club leagues, cross country championships, fell races, mountain races or the Welsh Castles Relay. She has been a role model for women and girls throughout the club, showing what dedication, consistency and determination look like in practice.

Like all runners, her journey has not been without its struggles. Yet one of the most inspiring things about Jen is that she continues to get better. Like a fine wine, she seems to improve with age, setting personal bests many would have thought impossible after turning 50.

In 2025, she travelled to New York for the Abbott Marathon Age Group World Championships, where she ran an incredible 3:03:27 and finished 13th in the world in the F50-54 age category. Then, at Ras yr Wyddfa in 2026, she claimed 1st V50 and helped secure 1st female team honours.

Most recently, Jen achieved something even she didn't expect. At Amsterdam Marathon last week, she broke the magical three-hour barrier, battling through a hamstring problem in the final mile to finish in an astonishing 2:59:54.

Yet what makes Jen special is not just the times on the clock. She volunteers countless hours for the club, from her dedication to the Tuesday Night Series to supporting the group's marshalling efforts. When she's not racing, you'll often find her cheering others on, encouraging new members and celebrating the success of everyone around her.

Jen has many friends throughout Eryri Harriers and an army of supporters who are immensely proud of everything she has achieved. We are incredibly lucky that she chose to wear red and green all these years.

Da iawn Jen. Thank you for everything you do for Eryri Harriers. We're so proud of you, and we can't wait to see what comes next.

To everyone lining up at Marathon Eryri this weekend: remember stories like Jen's. Consistency matters. Community matters. Keep showing up, keep believing, and sometimes the results will surprise you. 💚❤️ REMEMBER: Come out and support your team mates along the course and join us for a casual celebration drink from 13:00 at Padarn Lake.
