A Fond Farewell to John Carson
It is with great sadness that we shared the news that long-standing and loyal Eryri Harriers member John Carson passed away a few weeks ago.
Many of our longer-standing members will have fond memories of John proudly wearing the Eryri vest at countless mountain races — including Snowdon races — and cross-country events throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In later years, John remained a dedicated supporter of the club as a regular marshal and even organised a one-off Tuesday Evening Series race near Tremadog.
We send our deepest condolences to his daughter Angela Brand-Barker, herself a former loyal and highly successful club member, along with her sister and two brothers.
John’s funeral took place at Bangor Crematorium on Friday 8th May, followed by a gathering at the Royal Victoria Hotel, Llanberis. Many Eryri members attended in club kit to pay tribute and give thanks for everything John contributed to the club over the years.
Many will smile at the image of him continuing to walk laps around his care home well into his nineties — showing the same determination and spirit that defined him throughout his life.
